Aquaerobics is a light cardio workout done while standing in water to increase resistance and improve results.

Bereavement Support Program-Phase One The death of a loved one is indeed one of the cruelest blows that life has
to offer. The journey through this grief is a very difficult and painful one for those left behind. This six-week support
program for the newly bereaved (within the past six months), has a specific agenda to help those who are grieving the
recent loss of a Loved one. It is an opportunity to meet with other people and unite around common experiences. We
will share our stories and explore the process of grieving and healing. Call for new start dates, Gathering Rm. Free *PR

Bereavement Support Program-Phase Two provides ongoing support for those who completed Phase One (above).

Better Choices, Better Health: Put ‘life’ back in your life with this education program developed by Stanford University.
A 2 1/2 hour interactive, peer-supported workshop is held each week for six weeks. Offered a few times per year. Call

Blood Pressure/Sugar: A professional nurse will monitor your blood pressure and/or blood sugar as well as answer
your health questions. Monthly, Exam Rm. Free. Drop-in
Bone Builders is an ongoing osteoporosis prevention exercise program. Research reports published in the New
England Journal of Medicine and JAMA demonstrate conclusively that weight training and balance exercises give
participants the strength and stability to significantly reduce incidents of falling and fractured bones. Monday 12:30,
Tuesday 10:15, Wed. 10:00, Thursday 10:15 and 12:30, and Friday 10:00. Exercise Rm. Free. *PR/MR Class size

Brain-e-ology: This 7 session program dispels the limiting myths of memory loss and aging. Participants gain a better
understanding of how the brain works and new tools to incorporate brain fitness activities into daily life. Wednesday
10:00, wellness Rm, Free. *PR Class size limited.
Chair Massage: A licensed massage therapist will perform a massage with you fully clothed (requires no oils) and
sitting in an ergonomically designed portable massage chair allowing total relaxation. She will focus on your head,
neck, shoulders, back, arms, legs or feet to improve circulation and posture, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and
physical fatigue, reduce blood pressure and create an overall sense of well-being. Tuesday, 10:20-12:30. Exam Rm 50c
per minute, reserve any amount of minutes up to 30. *PR
Circuit Exercise: Our Circuit Exercise Program provides the key components for optimum health: cardiovascular
training, strength training and stretching. With hydraulic resistance the machines will provide greater resistance as you
become stronger and more fit. This means that the circuit will continue to provide the work necessary to elevate heart
rate and overload muscles. This thirty minute complete workout may be viewed as a “core workout” that provides an
efficient foundation so that you may enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Must wear shoes that have been designated for indoor
exercise only. Monday, Tues Thurs. 9:00 to 1:00pm, Wed. & Fri. 9:00 to 12:00. 2nd Floor, Free
Craniosacral Therapy: (CST) is a system of gentle, hands-on applications along the skull, spine and sacrum for
improving the function of the central nervous system and promoting deeper relaxation, greater overall tension relief and
wellness. CST can be effective for: orthopedic problems, stress, tension, anxiety, chronic fatigue, chronic neck and back
pain, migraine headaches, central nervous system disorders, traumatic brain/spinal disorders, scoliosis, fibromyalgia,

Diabetes Group: Monthly sessions discuss the different aspects and challenges of living with diabetes and what you
need to know to manage your diabetes. Group led by professional Diabetes Counselor. Monthly, 3rd Wednesday,

Exercise Equipment: We have an exercise Bike. Some benefits include muscle tone, weight loss, higher energy level,

Easy Tone Exercise: Our Easy Tone Beds offer an effective way to tone the whole body quickly and effortlessly.

Fitness Fun! 1 hour light aerobic exercise class, improving blood flow, oxygen, burns calories, builds muscle, stamina

Flu Shots are administered at the annual Senior Health Fair in October. Those with Medicare Part B must pre-register
and obtain an appointment time. Medicare card and license are needed for registration processing. Free.
Foot Clinic/Pedicures: designed for seniors who are unable to perform their own foot care. Professional nurse will
provide a basic nail trim and foot assessment (no treatment of corns or calluses). Friday, by appointment. Exam

Good Morning Program is a telephone check-in service that provides daily reassurance for those who live alone and
don’t have someone checking on them on a regular basis. Free. Pre-registration required with emergency information.
Health Fair is held annually in October. 35+ organizations who specialize in senior services and resources provide free
information, flu shots and health screenings. Free. Drop-in.
The Healthy Weigh Program is a weekly discussion group, with optional private weigh-in, designed to support you and
your goals to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Weekly recipes, snack tips, health tips, exercises and more are
given to inspire progress. First Monday of each month features a nutritionist from Northeast Rehab. Monday, 10:30.

Hearing Clinic: A professional hearing specialist will conduct hearing screening/test, hearing aid minor repair, and
hearing aids cleaned and checked. Monthly, 2nd Tuesday, 9:30-12:00, Gathering Rm. Free
Holistic Discussion Group gathers monthly to share ideas and experiences with alternative medicines and health
solutions. Monthly, 2nd & 4th Monday, 12:00. Gathering Rm. Free.
Matter of Balance: This award winning program is a multi-faceted education program specifically designed to reduce
the fear of falling and improve activity level among older adults. It uses group discussion, problem-solving strategies,
video and gentle physical exercise. Program consists of seven two-hour classes presented by trained coaches. Class
limited to 10. Program offered in spring and fall. Free, includes workbook and refreshments. *PR.
Medical Equipment: We lend, as well as welcome donations of walkers, wheelchairs, canes, toilet boosters, shower or
tub seats etc. These items may be borrowed for as long as necessary. Free.
Personal Training: Dawn Barnes is offering individual or small group training sessions. You may have one-on-one
sessions or gather up to three of your friends and have a small group sessions to work on increased strength, flexibility
and cardiovascular endurance. Cost: $35/session for six weeks/$210. Divide cost among group to $ave! ie: 4 people =

Pilates: A body condition routine that helps build flexibility and long, lean muscles, strength and endurance in the legs,
abdominals, arms, hips and back. Tuesday, 9:30-10, Exercise Rm. Cost: $20/10-week session.
Reiki: Relieve pain, relax muscles, feel deep relaxation and peace through a 20 minute Reiki treatment.

Tai Chi: This gentle form of exercise improves your balance, increases flexibility, tones muscles and neutralizes your
stress and tension. Has also been shown to increase immunity, lower blood pressure, lessen depression and improve
heart health. Tuesday, 9:00. Multipurpose Rm. Cost: $30/10-week session.
Vial of Life Program: Help family and emergency medical technicians give you fast and appropriate care by having a
“VIAL of LIFE” form in your home and on file at the center. Obtain form at the Senior Center. Free.
Walk Aerobics 1 Mile: a very mild and easy workout – a 1 mile/18 minute walking exercise class. Wednesday and/or
Friday, 1–1:30. Exercise Rm. Free. Drop-in.
Walk Aerobics 2 (or 3) Mile: For those who are ready to step it up a notch, this total-body power-walking program
helps you burn fat, shape and tone muscle, build bone strength and reduce stress. Mon thru Friday, 9-9:30. Exercise
Rm. Free. Drop-in.
Walking: The Mall at Rockingham Park offers a free, safe, climate-controlled walking track. The inside perimeter of the
mall, both upstairs and downstairs, equals one mile. Monday thru Saturday doors open at 6:45am, Sundays at 8am.
Use entrance by Ruby Tuesday Restaurant. Free.
Walking Outdoors: For those who enjoy walking outdoors, we have a group that meets, Mon. mornings at 8:00. Join
the fun. Seasonally, June thru September. Free
Yoga w/Meditation: uses simple, non-strenuous postures performed in a systematic, mindful manner, combined with
regulated breathing, to produce greater mobility and strength in joints while stretching and toning muscles, internal
organs and glands. For beginners and intermediate. Tuesday, 11:30. Exercise Rm. Free. Drop-in.
Zengevity is an innovative, whole body, whole person movement program for Seniors. Movement of the body is key to
health both physical and emotional. Mondays at 12:30 or Thursdays at 11:15. Exercise Rm, Free *PR
Zumba Gold: Dance your way to better health. Based on Latin dance moves, each 1 hr session can help to strengthen
muscle tone and burn calories. Tuesdays 10:00 & Wednesdays 11:00. Multi Purpose Rm. Cost: $20/10-week session.

Bread & Pastry Program: BJ’s Wholesale Club donates various bread and pastry items for seniors. You may select
one item per household, so wealth is shared by many. Monday, and Friday, 11:00, Creative Arts Rm. Free. Drop-in.
Coffee Machine: Coffee and tea, along with a light snack (if available) are offered in the Dining Room all day. $.25
Soda Machine offers various cold beverages for your convenience. Dining Rm.,$.25 per item.
Food Policy: To avoid unhealthy and unsightly spills, all food and drink should be consumed in the Dining Room only,
unless beverage is in a container with cover.
Lunch: A full, nutritious meal is served and managed by the Rockingham Nutrition Program. A monthly menu is
published in advance and is available at the Center. Monday thru Fridays,11:30. Dining Rm. Min. donation: $2 per meal.

Meals on Wheels will deliver a daily meal to those who are homebound Monday thru Friday. Minimum donation: $2 per

Pet Food: Occasionally, the Salem Animal Rescue League donates pet food for seniors with pets. One bag per
household. Free.
Snacks: Snacks and water available throughout the day, for nominal cost.
Special Lunches: Once a month, a more elaborate meal is served in celebration of holidays, etc. with hors d’eourves
before lunch and entertainment or a speaker afterwards. Inquire for dates. Min. donation: $2 per meal. *PR 893-2137

55Alive AARP Defensive Driving Course is specially designed for motorists, age 50+, to help refine your existing
skills and develop safe, defensive driving techniques. No tests, no time spent in vehicle. Eight hour course is taught in
two, four-hour sessions spanning two days. Completion may qualify you for auto insurance discount. Spring and Fall –
inquire for dates. $15 AARP member/$20 others; payable to AARP. *PR; class size limited.

Choral Group: The Salem Senior Singers is a group of 35 seniors who like to sing and enjoy performing.

Educational Seminars on various topics are scheduled and advertised throughout the year.
Entertainment Corner: Our bookcases are packed with books, audio books, videos and jigsaw puzzles. Help yourself;

Genealogy Group shares research tools, techniques, computer assistance and programs for researching your

Journey through the Bible: This study offers a one hour, non-denominational, relaxed study of the Bible, emphasizing
a particular book each week to insure a peaceful, respectful, and instructive atmosphere for contemplation. Friday,

Men’s Morning is a roundtable discussion, for men only, of whatever’s on your mind…politics, sports, health, hobbies,

Orientation provides a comprehensive overview of all of the activities, programs and services offered. You will meet the
staff, learn how the Center operates, how to register and participate. A guided tour will show you where the various
activities and services are held and familiarize you with the facility. This is a great opportunity to meet new people and

Newsletter: ‘The Good Life’ publishes the news, programs and services of Salem Senior Services. Newsletter may be
obtained at the Center quarterly. Receive it by mail by providing us with a self-addressed stamped envelope. The

bottom of our homepage.
Newspapers: For your convenience, the Community Values, Patriot, Salem Observer, Stateline Review, etc. are
available in our front entrance.
Off Broadway Thrift & Gift Shop features clothing, jewelry, small appliances, home decorative items, etc. Manned by
senior volunteers, most items are priced between .25c - $4. The public is welcomed to both shop and donate. M-F, 9-3.

Dental Assistance: The Professional Denture Care Program/NH Dental Society (225-5961) provides low cost dentures
for income eligible residents. We also have a list of reduced cost Dental Care available.

Bulletin Boards along the first floor hallway consist of senior-oriented information regarding community, senior center,
and red hat events as well as volunteer and job opportunities and various resources available.
Donations may be made in the name of a loved one, in appreciation of a service, or just because. Make payable to
Salem Council on Aging (SCOA), a 501c3 nonprofit org.
Donation Receipts are provided upon request for items donated to the center via the SCOA 501c3 designation.

Memorial Gardens grace the grounds of our center with flowering trees, benches, patios, donated in memory of loved
ones. You’re invited to walk, rest or picnic on our grounds anytime. Donations gratefully accepted.
Mr. Fix –it volunteers his time and talent to fix small household items. Bring them to center on Fridays 1-2 to meet and
discuss project. Donation recommended plus parts (if necessary)

Paper Shredder: To help protect from identity theft, we offer free document shredding. You may bring your documents
in and use our shredder any time we’re open.
Product Samples: Various companies send free samples for seniors to try.
Property Tax Relief Program: Eligible seniors may receive up to a $500 rebate from the State of NH on the education
portion of their property taxes. Trained volunteers will assist with the application. Generally in May. *PR
ServiceLink is a statewide information and referral service for New Hampshire residents age 60 and older and adults
living with disability or chronic illness, their caregivers and anyone interested in long-term care planning. Whether it’s a
quick question or a referral for additional support and services within your community, the assistance you receive from
ServiceLink will be tailored to your specific needs. Best resource for Medicare and health insurance guidance. Program
and service experts are available by appointment to help link seniors to the answers and solutions. For more

Stamps are available, as a convenience, at the front desk. A senior may purchase up to five at a time, at cost.
Suggestion Box is located in the lobby of the center for suggestions, ideas and comments. Yours are welcomed!
Veteran’s Services: NH Veteran’s Employment assistance call 893-9185. NH Veteran’s State and Federal Benefit
assistance call 624-9230 ex 301. A representative from Veterans services is available at Service Link on the 1 st and 4th
Wednesdays of the month. Call:893-9769 for Appointment.
Discounts: Avon books available, always 20%off. Mary Kay books available, always 25%off. Orders delivered at Ctr.
Eye glasses are collected in the lobby for the Lions Club. Donations are appreciated.
First Aid kits are on-site if needed. We do not administer meds.
Job Opportunities are posted on a bulletin board along with info for the Senior Community Service Employment
Program (603) 225-3295. This program helps seniors develop new skills and talents toward new career opportunities.
Rental Policy: The Ingram Senior Center is not available for rent for social activities or meetings; however we can
provide a list of other possible local options.
Name tags: All who participate must register with the Senior Center and wear a name tag. This promotes friendly
interaction as well as accountability.
Registration: Anyone participating in any activity at the center must be registered. General participation is free for
Salem residents; $35 annually for non-residents.
Parking Policy: A senior center will never have enough handicapped spaces, so, if you’re fortunate to still walk well,
please park further away from the building and leave front spaces for those more in need. Also, during center operation
hours, do not use our parking lot to carpool with others—we have a shortage of spaces.
Salem Council on Aging consists of seven Salem residents appointed by the Board of Selectmen to serve as an
advisory board to the Selectmen, being their eyes and ears to insure that Salem is providing the resources and services
its older population needs and deserves. The Director of Senior Services is the Town’s staff liaison to this group.
Weather Policy: When inclement weather closes Salem schools, the Center is closed/all programs cancelled. A
delayed opening for Salem schools means our morning programs are cancelled, but afternoon programs will take place.

Wellness Emergency Check List: In partnership with Fire & Police, we maintain a list of those who would like to be
called or visited in the event of an emergency such as blizzards, loss of electricity, ice storms, flooding. To add your
