Graduation Credit Policy
Beginning with coursework taken during the Spring quarter, 2009, (200904), students must earn a grade of C or
better in any course in order for that course to count as credit toward graduation. Courses in which the student
earns a D or an F will become part of the student’s transcript and will be included in the student’s GPA, but will
not count as credit toward graduation.
ID Policy
All Savannah Technical College students are required to display their official Savannah Technical
College ID while on any Savannah Technical College campus location. Students will not be admitted to
classes if their Savannah Technical College ID is not easily visible to the instructor.
Attendance/Withdrawal/Reinstatement
Because attendance is a critical factor in meeting the academic criteria required for successful completion of
each class, a student will be withdrawn from a class after missing fifteen percent (15%) of the scheduled hours
in the class. This policy will encompass all Savannah Technical College campuses and affect all technical
certificates of credit, diploma, and degree classes.
In the event of extraordinary circumstances, consideration for reinstatement may be requested in writing to the
Academic Dean. The Academic Dean will review the circumstances may reinstate a student. As a condition of
reinstatement, a student will be required to complete all work as assigned by the instructor in order to
successfully complete the class. Failure to complete all assigned work may result in an incomplete or failing
grade for the class.
Excused Absences
The following activities will not be counted as absences if substantiating documentation is submitted to the
instructor before such events occur:
Military Service/Training
Jury Summons
School Sponsored Activities
Excused absences will not be used as a basis for withdrawing a student from class or in determining a student’s
Work Ethics Grade.
A student who is granted an excused absence will be responsible for completing all work as assigned by the
instructor in order to successfully complete the class.
Work Ethics
The Technical College System of Georgia and Savannah Technical College believe it is extremely important to
identify, evaluate, and encourage good work habits as an integral part of the instructional program. Therefore, a
system to evaluate “work ethics” in each credit course has been developed. Work ethics grades (3,2,1,0) are
earned in each completed credit hour course and are included on the student’s permanent record and transcript.
A list of work ethics characteristics is detailed below:
1. Attendance: Attends class, arrives/leaves on time; notifies instructor in advance of planned absences;
and makes up assignments punctuality. Attendance is not considered in determining the academic grade
a student is awarded for academic achievement in each course.
2. Character: Displays loyalty, honesty, trustworthiness, reliability, dependability, initiative, selfdiscipline, and self-responsibility.
3. Teamwork: Respects rights of others; is a team worker, is cooperative; is assertive; displays a customer
service attitude; seeks opportunities for continuous learning; and displays mannerly behavior.
4. Appearance: Displays appropriate dressed, grooming, hygiene, and etiquette.
5. Attitude: Demonstrates a positive attitude; appears self-confident; and has realistic expectations of self.
6. Productivity: Follows safety practices; conserves materials; keeps work area neat and clean; and
follows directions/procedures.
7. Organizational Skills: Manifests skill in personal management, time management, prioritizing,
flexibility, stress management, and dealing with change.
8. Communication: Displays appropriate nonverbal and verbal skills.
9. Cooperation: Displays leadership skills; appropriately handles criticism and complaints; demonstrates
problem-solving capability; maintains appropriate relationships with supervisors and peers; and follows
chain of command.
10. Respect: Deals appropriately with cultural/racial diversity and does not engage in harassment of any
kind.
A quarterly work ethics grade for all non-developmental credit courses completed will be issued to students and
placed in the student’s permanent academic record. Work ethics grades are recorded as a separate grade on the
student’s permanent record and will be placed to the immediate right of the academic letter grades. Work Ethics
grades are:
3= Exceeds Expectations: Work Ethics performance is exemplary. Student has consistently demonstrated
characteristics that will stand out in the work environment.
2=Meets Expectations: All work ethics standards are met. The quality of student’s work ethics
performance is that of a good employee in the normal work environment.
1=Needs Improvement: Some standards were not met. Additional training in employability skills is
recommended.
0=Unacceptable: Work ethics performance was below average. Additional training in employability skills
is a must if the student is to survive in the work environment.
Financial Aid Considerations
Academic deficiencies or withdrawal from a class may have an adverse effect on financial aid eligibility. It is
recommended that every student consult with his or her academic advisor and financial aid representative to
determine the effect that a failing grade or withdrawal from class may have on continuing financial aid
eligibility.

Beginning Summer Quarter 2008 (200901):
 Students will be allowed to drop/add within the first three business days of the quarter with no penalty.
