PART 1 – GENERAL
1.01
SUMMARY
A. Section Includes: Seat and Table Requirements:
1. Pedestal: Provide modular seating which allows: one (1) or two (2) independently movable chairs to
mount to a single pedestal along with a section of table.
2. Chair: Provide a chair which 360° swivels, pivots and lifts on a horizontal plane, returning to a uniform
position at the edge of the table when unoccupied.
3. Table / Work Surface: By Other

1. Division 9 finishes sections for adequate floor & wall construction for operation of 360° Healthcare
Swing Arm Seating. Flooring and underside of table shall be level and suitable for structural loading.
B. Qualifications and Capabilities:
1. BIDDER QUALIFICATIONS:
Bidders are required to be an authorized dealer or manufacturer for equipment proposed which on a
day-to-day basis regularly provide the equipment offered. Bidders are further advised that only
standard production models or standard options will be acceptable for award. Equipment offered shall
be currently manufactured on an active assembly line.
2. INSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS:
Healthcare Swing Arm Seating installer shall be Factory Approved by the Manufacturer

1.03
MANUFACTURER’S SYSTEM ENGINEERING DESCRIPTION
A. Structural Performance: Engineer, fabricate and install Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360° Healthcare
Swing Arm Seating systems to the following structural loads without exceeding allowable design working
stresses of materials involved, including anchors and connections. Apply each load to produce maximum
stress in each respective component of Self-Returning Swivel Seating (SRSS).
1. Design Loads: Comply with or Exceed: ANSI/BIFMA X5.1 2011 Office Furniture
A. Manufacturer's System Design Criteria:
1. Clarin by Hussey Seating Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360° Healthcare Swing Arm Seating;
Design to support and resist, in addition to its own weight, the following forces:
a. ANSI/BIFMA X5.1 2011 Office Furniture Testing Requirements.
b. Uniformly distributed Perpendicular Static Load of 900 lbs. [408kg] to the SRSS Swing Arm in the
used position with no loss of system operation.

SUBMITTIALS
A. Section Cross-Reference: Required submittals in accordance with "Conditions of the Contract" and
Division 1 General Requirements sections of this "Project Manual".
B. Project Data: Manufacturer's product data for each system. Include the following:
1. Deviations: List of deviations from these project specifications, if any.
C. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings and indicate Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360° Healthcare
Swing Arm Seating layout. Show table heights [by others], seat type selected with dimensional data,
clear aisle widths and locations, assembly dimensions, anchorage to supporting structure, material
types and finishes.
D. Samples: Seat materials and color finish as selected by Architect from manufacturer’s standard offered
color finishes.
E. Installer Qualifications: Installer qualifications indicating capability, experience and approved status.
F. Operating/Maintenance Manuals: Provide to Owner maintenance manuals. Demonstrate operating
procedures, recommended maintenance and inspection program.
G. Warranty: Manufacturer’s standard warranty documents.

1.06
DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. General: Comply with Division1 products requirements section.
B. Deliver Self-Returning Swivel Seating / Healthcare Swing Arm Seating in manufacturer’s packaging clearly
labeled with manufacturer name and content.
C. Handle seating equipment in a manner to prevent damage.
D. Deliver the seating at a scheduled time for installation that will not interfere with other trades operating in
the building.
E. Store materials protected from exposure to harmful conditions as recommended by manufacturer.
1.07
PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Field Measurements: Coordinate actual dimensions of construction affecting Self-Returning Swivel
Seating / 360° Healthcare Swing Arm Seating installation by accurate field measurements before
fabrication. Show recorded measurements on final shop drawings. Coordinate field measurements and
fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid delay of work.
1.08
WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer's Product Warranty: Submit manufacturer's standard warranty form for Self-Returning
Swivel Seating / 360° Healthcare Swing Arm Seating. This warranty is in addition to, and not a limitation of
other rights Owner may have under Contract Documents.
1. Warranty Period: Five years from Date of Acceptance.
2. Beneficiary: Issue warranty in legal name of project Owner.
3. Warranty Acceptance: Owner is sole authority who will determine acceptance of warranty documents.
1.09
MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION
A. Instructions: Both operation and maintenance shall be transmitted to the Owner by the manufacturer of
the seating or his representative.
B. Service: Maintenance and operation of the Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360° Healthcare Swing Arm
Seating shall be the responsibility of the Owner or his duly authorized representative, and shall include the
following:
1. Operation of the Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360° Healthcare Swing Arm Seating shall be
supervised by responsible personnel who will assure that the operation is in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions.
2. Only attachments specifically approved by the manufacturer for the specific installation shall be
attached to the seating.

3. An annual inspection and required maintenance of each seating system shall be performed to assure
safe conditions. At least biannually, the inspection shall be performed by a professional engineer or
factory qualified service personnel.

2.02
PRODUCT SUBSTITUIONS
A. Substitutions: No substitutions permitted.
2.03
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A. Proprietary Seating Systems: Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360° Healthcare Swing Arm Seating:
Clarin by Hussey Seating Company. Provide chairs with manufacturer’s features specified below:
B. Pedestal/ Base Plate Structure: Each pedestal is constructed of 1-1/2” [38mm] X 3” [76mm heavy gauge
3/16” [5mm] carbon-steel tubing. The lower portion of the pedestal, where the arm assemblies attach, shall
be 90 degrees to the floor. Pedestal shall have a full perimeter electric arc weld to a base plate. The weld
bead shall be no less than ¼” thick. The 5” [127mm] X 6-1/2” [165mm] steel base plate is designed with
four (4) holes which accept anchor bolts (not furnished). ABS cover for base plate. Assembled
understructure must withstand a 200-lbs. [91kg] rigid load dropped two inches without permanent
deformation.
C. Seat Support Arm Assembly: Each pedestal will receive one or two seat support arms. The seat support
arms are constructed of 1” [25mm] X 2” [51mm] 11 gauge steel tubing. Support arms shall be supported
at the pedestal and work independently of each other. Each support arm is secured to its own 1-3/4”
[44mm] X 2” [51mm] X1” [25mm] cold rolled steel top bracket. These top brackets, along with two lower
brackets, are attached to the pedestal with a full perimeter electric arc weld with a bead no less than ¼”.
Attachment of arm to pedestal brackets is accomplished by utilizing a ½” [13mm] diameter X 4-5/8”
[117mm] long hardened steel axle pin riding on a 5/8” [16mm] long oil impregnated bearing for selflubricating at the top. A flange bearing at the bottom of this pin assembly shall provide for adjustment of

the torsion spring tension, which returns the arm to its unoccupied position. This flange bearing shall ride
on a self-lubricating bronze thrust bearing impregnated with high-grade mineral oil of no less than SAE 30
viscosity. Return spring system should be fully enclosed and field adjustable without removal of arm
assembly. Any spring mechanism not adjustable in the field will not be approved. Arm to pedestal
assembly shall be designed with no cover plates eliminating any pinching hazards.
D. Table Top Support Plates: The table top support plates of the pedestal assembly shall be made of 11
gauge carbon steel wit powder coat finish. They are design to eliminate the need for unsightly shims by
adjusting for height and angle to level the tabletops due to uneven floors. Systems using shims will not be
accepted. Top plates shall be secured to the pedestal by two 3/8” [9mm] –16NC X 2-1/4” [[57mm] long
hex bolts passing through sleeves within the pedestal.
E. Seat Mechanism: The seat undercarriage bracket utilizes a solid steel support post, which is inserted
through the top of the support arm and also through a flanged nylon sleeve. The seat shall be mounted on
an auto centering gas cylinder with 2 1/2” [63mm] lift. Adjustable height cast foot ring which provides
patron assistance getting into and out of the seat shell while also providing a foot resting position.
F. Seat Shells:
1. Ciélo™ Shell: 20 1/2” (521mm) back width, 24 1/2” (622mm) overall depth: Black mesh weave back
and upholstered seat. Back upright shall include vertically adjustable lumbar pad (5 positions). Two
piece seat and back with tension control and a flex back. Lever to limit amount of back flex is integral
to seat control mechanism. All Clarin fabrics shall be available and all COM fabrics require factory
approval. CAL 117 fire retardant foam standard.
2. Equinox™ Shell: 19 3/4” (502mm) back width, 23” (584mm) overall depth. Fully upholstered seat
shell is standard. The backrest is ergonomically molded in black glass filled polypropylene and utilizes
ventilation slots for maximum long-term comfort. The back is attached to the seat upright via an
adjustment mechanism that allows for vertical adjustment (5 positions). The back upright/support is
steel, finished in a durable black powder coating. The lumbar support and or upper back are available
with an upholstered pad and the upholstered can be in vinyl or fabric. All COM fabrics require factory
approval. CAL 117 fire retardant foam standard.
3. Lunar™ Shell: 19 1/4” (489mm) back width, 24” (610mm) overall depth: Fully upholstered inner back
and seat. Back upright shall be hidden with polypropylene cover integral to the polypropylene back
and seat outer support covers. Two piece seat and back with tension control and a flex back. All
Clarin fabrics shall be available and all COM fabrics require factory approval. CAL 117 fire retardant
foam standard.
4. Ellipsis™ Shell: 16 1/2” (419mm) back width, 22 3/4” (578mm) overall depth. Fully upholstered inner
back and seat. Back upright shall be hidden with polypropylene cover integral to the polypropylene
back and seat outer support covers. Two piece seat and back with tension control and a flex back. All
Clarin fabrics shall be available and all COM fabrics require factory approval. CAL 117 fire retardant
foam standard.
5. Solstice™ Shell: 17 1/2” (445mm) back width, 19 1/2” (495mm) overall depth. Black or Navy one piece injection molded polypropylene thermoplastic seat and back. Un-upholstered shells have a
textured seating surface. Optional upholstered 1 ½” (38mm) foam seat and 1” (25mm) foam back
cushions available with standard Clarin® fabric and/or vinyl. All C.O.M fabrics require factory approval.
CAL 117 Fire Retardant foam standard.
6. Latitude™ Shell: 18” (457mm) wide, 18 1/4” (464mm) deep, back shall have a tension control flex
back that allows the back to release when someone leans back on it. There shall be a tension control
at the base of the shell. The back supports shall be powder-coated black with the flex coming from the
control. The back shall be a polypropylene open webbing to allow for air to flow through. The seat shall
be upholstered as standard. All Clarin® fabrics shall be available, and all COM fabrics require factory
approval. CAL 117 fire retardant foam standard. Optional injection molded polypropylene
thermoplastic seat is available.

G. Table Top / Work Surface: [By Other]
1. Table top is secured to each pedestal by (4) 5/16” [8mm] x 1” [25mm] lag bolts.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.01
EXAMINATION
A. Verification of Conditions: Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360º Healthcare Swing Arm Seating (SRSS)
areas are free of impediments interfering with installation and condition of installation substrates are
acceptable to receive SRSS in accordance with SRSS manufacturer's recommendations. Do not
commence installation until conditions are satisfactory.
3.02
INSTALLATION
A. Manufacturer's Recommendations: Comply with Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360º Healthcare Swing
Arm Seating (SRSS) manufacturer's recommendations for product installation requirements.
B. General: Manufacturer’s Approved Installers to install Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360º Healthcare
Swing Arm Seating (SRSS) in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions and final shop
drawings.
C. Manufacturer does not provide floor mounting anchor bolts.
3.03
ADJUSTMENT AND CLEANING
A. Adjustment: After installation completion, test and adjust each Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360º
Healthcare Swing Arm Seating (SRSS) assembly to operate in compliance with manufacturer's operations
manual.
B. Cleaning: Clean installed Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360º Healthcare Swing Arm Seating (SRSS) on
both exposed and semi-exposed surfaces. Touch-up finishes restoring damage or soiled surfaces.
C. Replace: Replace any fabric damaged during installation.
3.04
PROTECTION
A. General: Provide final protection and maintain conditions, in a manner acceptable to manufacturer and
installer to ensure Self-Returning Swivel Seating / 360º Healthcare Swing Arm Seating (SRSS) are without
damage or deterioration at time of substantial completion.
