Description
100% of one 6th Grade class will demonstrate growth towards
mastery of attending to precision by consistently demonstrating an
accurate pass with correct form to a moving receiver.
One class of 6th Grade (6B) physical education students.
Physical Education National Standard 1:
 Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and
movement patterns.
 S1.M5.6
Common Core Mathematical Practice:
Mathematical Practice Standard 6- Attend to Precision
Every other day for 50 minutes for one semester (could be used over
a year time period as well).
Student competency will be based on administration of the “Passing
Accurately to a Moving Receiver Rubric” in the 3rd quarter and postassessment data collected during the 4th quarter using the same
rubric.
Quarter 3: - Passing Accurately Pre-Assessment
- Overhand Throw Peer Assessment
Quarter 4: - Overhand Throw Self-Assessment
- Passing Accurately Post-Assessment
Data points will be recorded on the “Attend to Precision Grade sheet”
Data collected from the “Passing Accurately to a Moving Receiver”
pre-assessment administered in the 3rd quarter.
Summary of scores:
____ out of 20 students earned a 4 out of 4 on the baseline assignment
____ out of 20 students earned a 3 out of 4 on the baseline assignment
____ out of 20 students earned a 2 out of 4 on the baseline assignment
____ out of 20 students earned a 1 out of 4 on the baseline assignment
Physical education students develop as movers by learning to send a
pass to a moving target with precision. Being effective at this
transferable skill allows students to apply offensive strategies in
small authentic game play.
 Students who earned a 1 (Emerging) on the Pre-Assessment
will earn at least a 2 (Progressing/Developing) or a 3
(Competent/Evident) on the Post-Assessment.
 Students who earned a 2 (Progressing/Developing) on the PreAssessment will earn at least a 3 (Competent/Evident) or a 4
(Proficient/Consistently Evident) on the Post-Assessment.
 Students who earned a 3 (Competent/Evident) on the Pre-

Assessment will earn a 4 (Proficient/Consistently Evident) on
the Post-Assessment.
Students who earned a 4 (Proficient/Consistently Evident) on
the Pre-Assessment will maintain a 4 (Proficient/Consistently
Evident) or earn a 4 on a more complex passing task as part of
the Post-Assessment as determined by the teacher.
*Note: Students identified by IEP teams as having significant
cognitive disabilities will have individual targets.

Display throwing cues on posters for each type of throw.
Use the guided discovery teaching method to allow students to
explore ways to increase throwing power and accuracy.
● Have students review their own performance data and identify
areas for improvement.
● Students will evaluate their performance by watching a video
of themselves and completing the Overhand Throw SelfAssessment.
● Incorporate exit tickets that assess throwing cues and
biomechanical principles.
● Allow students to assess an individual who is at the mastery
level of throwing (i.e. professional athlete) using the Master
Thrower Activity.
(Allow students to peer teach a throwing skill and give feedback.)

Skill/Movement Concept: Passing accurately to a moving receiver
Grade: 6
Objective: Demonstrate throwing to a moving receiver with control in an authentic
situation. (S1.M5.6)
Outcome: Throws, while stationary, a leading pass to a moving receiver.
Suggested Assessment Task:
-Maintain possession of an object during
a small group keep away game (2 v 1)
Grade 6 Assessment Criteria:
1. Consistently passes to a moving target accurately
2. Consistently uses correct form while passing
3. Always: 5 out of 5, Consistently: 4 out of 5,
Usually: 3 out of 5, Sometimes: 2 out of 5 or below
