Programme outline
Cuckoo finds some “animals” in Ma Wan. It then posts the photos of the “animals” on
its website. But, are the animals real? Join Max and his cousin Judy to find out.
During their bus trip, they also see some beautiful bridges and places in Hong Kong.

Communicative functions
1. Identify some common animals and describe their features, eating habits and
abilities
2. Learn about the names of places and landmarks in Hong Kong such as Ma Wan,
Lantau Island, Tsing Ma Bridge, etc.
Suggested activities
1. Project the map in COPYMASTER 1 and locate Ma Wan on the map.
2. Explain the programme briefly. Introduce Cuckoo the puppet and its travel tips on
its website. Introduce Max and his cousin Judy who like travelling around.
3. Before watching, tell pupils that they are going on a trip to a park in Ma Wan to
look for the animals with Cuckoo, Max and Judy.
4. During watching, pupils will learn about some common animals found in other
parts of the world in terms of their habitats, features through the animals’
voice-overs.
5. During Max and Judy’s bus trip, pupils will see some scenic spots of Hong Kong
such as Kap Shui Mun Bridge and Tsing Ma Bridge. They will also know where
Lantau island and Tsing Yi are in that area.

6. After watching, teachers can distribute COPYMASTER 2 to pupils. Ask them to
search on the Internet about The Ark Garden and the bridges in Hong Kong. Look
for the answers to Cuckoo’s questions.

Answer: There are 67 pairs of animals in the park.

Teachers can encourage pupils to do a small project on “Bridges in Hong Kong” or
“Animals in Noah’s Ark” if they want to learn more about the subjects.
7. Let pupils have COPYMASTER 3 Part A. Circle the names of the animals that
they remember having seen in the programme. One has been done as an example.
Teachers can replay the programme and finish this part with the pupils. Pupils
should practice saying the names together in class.

8. Ask pupils to complete COPYMASTER 3 Part B with the words given. Look at
the descriptions and pictures first. Choose and fill in the names of the animals.

e. Giraffes
Also, pupils should have the time to practice saying the words correctly with
teachers’ guidance.
