New Technology and Expanded Offering Push JELD-WEN Fiberglass to Head of Class
JELD-WEN’s fiberglass offering reaches new heights in 2013
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –During the 2013 International Builders Show in Las Vegas, JELDWEN is going “all-in” with three tiers of fiberglass doors. JELD-WEN is introducing a new
fiberglass lineup with added species and panel designs, available in a greater array of widths and
heights, and unveiling even more realistic wood grains only rivaled by Mother Nature herself.
First up, the Smooth-Pro and textured Design-Pro collections are
undergoing changes in their manufacturing technologies that translate
to improved aesthetics and much more variety; in fact, these
collections will expand their offering by more than 50 percent this
year. JELD-WEN is adding Fir and a textured white Oak wood grain
to the Design-Pro collection, to deliver the
good looks, long-lasting durability and lowmaintenance convenience of fiberglass to
more homes than ever before.
Continued strong demand for taller doors
led JELD-WEN to increase the number of
smooth and textured door styles in seven- and

eight-foot heights. Six Smooth-Pro models will
be available in 7’0” heights, and seven will be
available in 8’0” heights -- with continued expansion in height
offering expected in both Smooth-Pro and Design-Pro collections as
the year progresses.
Another boost to the Smooth-Pro line is the introduction of direct
glazed designs, which maximize the daylight-viewing area and
provide a flush frame profile around the glass for a clean, modern
look.
JELD-WEN has also re-engineered and expanded its Architectural
Fiberglass collection. Using state-of-the-art technology, the JELD-
JELD-WEN Architectural
Fiberglass door in Walnut
WEN Architectural Fiberglass door collection matches the true look of wood grains in striking
detail. The collection will feature the industry’s most popular wood grains, Mahogany and Fir,
and will also feature the much more unusual Walnut wood grain. The doors will be available in
many architectural styles, from Old World to Craftsman and contemporary designs. Details such
as raised mouldings and hardwood edge bands will complete the authentic look.
What sets the JELD-WEN Architectural Fiberglass door collection apart from the industry are
the silicone molds used to capture the wood grain. This proprietary process allows the unique
wood grain patterns to be directly transferred from a wood door to a fiberglass facing, without
the intermediate transfer to metal dies – which would involve more labor, detail degradation, and
added cost. JELD-WEN’s process not only preserves the individual subtleties of the wood, but
also gives the company the ability to produce exotic wood grains and unique panel designs at a
surprisingly appealing price for homeowners.
“Fiberglass doors have been marketed as wood replicas for many years with varying degrees of
success,” said Derek Brosterhous, director of product marketing for doors at JELD-WEN. “We
have put our efforts behind producing the most realistic wood grain possible and what we have
accomplished is a fiberglass door that is indistinguishable from actual wood – truly revolutionary
in the door industry.”
JELD-WEN Architectural Fiberglass doors are anticipated for availability in the marketplace
Spring of 2013.
Finally, the JELD-WEN Aurora® Custom Fiberglass collection is in a class by itself. The Aurora
Custom Fiberglass line is where JELD-WEN perfected its proprietary process of transferring
wood grain from real wood doors to fiberglass, using silicone molds. Custom sizes, unique panel
designs and custom hand-applied finishes truly put these doors in a class by themselves. Aurora
doors come with many options including radius/arch tops, intricate carvings, art glass, antique
and distressed finishes, and decorative metal accents such as clavos and straps.
One example of the great potential for customization of Aurora doors is the high-end entry door
system selected for the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) “New American Home,”
a desert-contemporary home situated in the Marquis Seven Hills area outside Las Vegas.
NAHB’s 2013 International Builders’ Show attendees can tour the New American Home January
22 – 24 via free shuttle buses departing from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
