All archaeological field work in traditional Squamish Nation territory, as well as all studies involving
archaeological collections from traditional Squamish Nation territory, must be carried out under an
‘Archaeological Investigation Permit’ issued by ‘Squamish Nation’

INFORMATION TO BE SUBMITTED WITH THIS APPLICATION
1.
Submit the permit application fee of $300 in the form of a cheque made out to Squamish Nation.
2.
Provide a copy of all other permit applications submitted for this investigation and all permits issued for this
investigation.

Other Squamish Nation Archaeological Permits applied for or held by applicant;
The name of the agency, company or other entity for which the investigation is being undertaken; and
Proposed repository for archaeological materials, original records, and other original documents generated by this
investigation.
Provide a current Curriculum Vitae for all senior investigation personnel if not already provided.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1)
This Archaeological Investigation Permit is valid only for the permit period indicated.
The permit period may be extended by Squamish Nation upon receipt from the
permit-holder of a written application for an extended permit period.
2)
The permit-holder must advise Squamish Nation of any changes in the investigation as
described in the Permit Application prior to implementing the changes. Such changes
must be approved in writing by the Squamish Nation prior to the permit-holder
implementing the changes. Failure to advise Squamish Nation of such changes may
terminate the Permit.
3)
A person designated by Squamish Nation may at any time inspect any investigation
being conducted under Permit, including records or materials recovered under the
authority of the Permit.
4)
Upon completion of any investigation involving excavations, the permit-holder shall
ensure all sites are restored as nearly as possible to their former condition, to the
satisfaction of Squamish Nation.
5)
The permit-holder must provide Squamish Nation with a copy of all reports, thesis,
dissertations, papers and any other statements of findings of the investigation within 60
days of completion. If no reports or findings are generated, the permit-holder must
inform Squamish Nation in writing of the objectives, methods and results of the
investigation.
6)
The permit-holder must provide Squamish Nation with a copy of all field notes, forms,
photographs and other original documents resulting from the investigation.
7)
The permit-holder must be present "on site" for at least 80% of all field work undertaken
under this Permit.
8)
If human remains are found, the permit-holder must contact Squamish Nation
immediately and must not disturb the remains until authorized by Squamish Nation.
9)
The permit-holder must contact Squamish Nation regarding the "ethnic significance" of
any archaeological remains found.
NOTE: Additional terms and conditions may be imposed by Squamish Nation in the Permit such as
requiring employment of a member of Squamish Nation or deposit of all archaeological materials
in trust for Squamish Nation with a particular institution.
