And that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day
According to the Scriptures
1 Corinthians 15:4
Acts 2:29–36— “Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried,
and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 “And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH
AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the
Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY. 32 “This Jesus God raised up again,
to which we are all witnesses. 33 “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the
Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. 34 “For it was not David
who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: ‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, 35 UNTIL I MAKE
YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET.” ’ 36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has
made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”
TORAH
Genesis 22:4— Binding of Isaac: On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance.
Hebrews 11:19— He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead,
from which he also received him back as a type.
PROPHETS
Isaiah 53:10–12— But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt
offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
11 As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My
Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And
He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the
transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors.
Hosea 6:2— “He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him”
Jonah 2:1–10— Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the stomach of the fish, 2 and he said, “I called out of my
distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice. 3 “For You
had cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the current engulfed me. All Your breakers and billows
passed over me. 4 “So I said, ‘I have been expelled from Your sight. Nevertheless I will look again toward Your holy
temple.’ 5 “Water encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around
my head. 6 “I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have
brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God. 7 “While I was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, And my prayer
came to You, Into Your holy temple. 8 “Those who regard vain idols Forsake their faithfulness, 9 But I will sacrifice to
You With the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the LORD.” 10 Then the LORD
commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.
