Ireland is a nation of storytellers, boasting some of the greatest writers of all time. This Easter The Ark, A
Cultural Centre for Children is shining the spotlight on books, words and illustrations. Children from ages 2 – 12
can explore their own creativity through words, stories and pictures. Be a contributing author to an everygrowing group story, write your own story on magnetic boards with words and pictures or take part in a
Detective Comic Book Workshop or Build A Book Workshop.
Be inspired by other writers. In the intimate theatre space of The Ark you can watch a short DVD of talented
storytellers reading from children’s books or on other floors of the building study the beautiful art-work from
books on display.
To mark the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic there will be a special storytelling event, suitable for all the
family, using children’s books to explore the myth and mystery surrounding the famous ocean liner (14th April).
This specially commissioned programme is curated by Pádraic Whyte, Assistant Professor of English and codirector of the Masters programme in Children’s Literature at the School of English, Trinity College Dublin.
The Ark in Temple Bar is a custom designed space for children who commissions and presents programmes
throughout the year introducing young people to the joy, wonder and creativity of the arts. Adults and children

Detective Comic Book Workshop

In this exciting workshop, learn the tricks of writing a detective book in pictures and words. Alan will help get
you started, but you get to decide how the mystery is solved.
Build a Book Workshop
With author/illustrator Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick
Saturday 21st April and Saturday 28th April
10.30 -11.30am (Ages 2-4)
12-1.30pm (Ages 5-7)
3-4.30pm (Ages 8-12)
This fun workshop combines creative writing and crafts, where you will get a chance to make your own tiny
books and help pass on the joy of reading and writing. You will be encouraged to share or ‘plant’ your books in
your own communities and thereby inspire others to read more.

The Tale of the Titanic
Saturday, 14th April
3-4pm Suitable for all the family
