Changing verbs to nouns
1. By changing the end of the verb form eg: discuss to discussion, arrange
to arrangement
2. By adding ing to the verb eg: act to acting
Some verbs can be used as nouns without any change eg: a visit, a struggle etc
Changing conjunctions to nouns
1. Conjunctions are commonly used to represent a cause
eg: Year 9 don’t like Miss DeCourcy because she is annoying.
We can change this to a noun by adding in a cause word
eg: Year 9’s reason for not liking Miss DeCourcy is the fact that she’s
annoying.
2. Conjunctions are commonly used to compare
eg: Gilroy is a big school but Oakhill is bigger.
We can change this to a noun by adding in a distinction
eg: One difference between Gilroy and Oakhill is their size.
Changing adjectives to nouns
1. By changing the adjective into the noun form eg: expensive to expense,
unstable to instability, tense to tension
eg: It was tense in the room.
This can be changed to include a noun form.
eg: There was a feeling of tension around the room.
