WASHINGTON DC PACKING TIPS AND RULES
Medications: Students may only bring medication on the trip that was included on
their notarized medical form (turned in last month). ALL of these medications must
be in their original bottles with original labels and prescribed instructions. Place all
medication in a baggie with your child’s name written in sharpie on the baggie. This
bag should be given to your child’s chaperone when you arrive on Monday morning
for departure. No prescription or non-prescription medication can be brought on
the trip unless it is on the notarized forms.
Electronics: Students are responsible for all personal belongings that they bring on
this trip. The chaperones do not hold or care for any of the belongings. We
encourage the use of cameras and cell phones. Cell phones are very helpful and
become a safety line for the students in case of an emergency. Don’t forget to pack
chargers, memory cards, batteries, etc. for any electronics that the students bring
(they are expensive to buy in DC). Handheld gaming devices are allowed but we do
not allow students to use personal video players. All of the buses have DVD and/or
Blu Ray players and all movies played will be PG-13 or lower rating. Students
provide the movies that we show on the bus, so bring movies to watch…label them
with your name (both the case and the dvd)!
Shoes: gym shoes are the best type of shoes to wear on this trip. Packing two pairs
of gym shoes would be a really good idea just in case of rain. Flip flops are
discouraged while touring. You must wear shoes that you can walk long distances
in- We are on our feet nearly all day long! Do not wear shoes that you have never
worn before (brand new), make sure they are broken in and are comfortable!
Clothing: Keep checking the weather outlook for the week, as things change quickly
but it is always a good idea to pack with the idea of dressing in layers each day. We
suggest jeans, tshirts, with sweatshirts and /or jackets over. The mornings and
evenings are cold and the days typically warm up a good bit. The museums are
often a bit chilly too. But, whatever we leave the hotel with in the morning is all we
can access all day long as we do not return to the hotel until it is time to check in for
the night. We also often are away from the bus for hours at a time, so preparation is
important.
Pack plenty of socks and underwear and don’t forget clothing to sleep in.
ALL CLOTHES MUST FOLLOW THE DUBLIN CITY SCHOOLS DRESS CODE!!!!
(hats are acceptable in many of the places that we visit)
Toiletries: Pack shampoo, conditioner, soap, DEODORANT, cosmetics, feminine
hygiene products, hair dyer/iron/etc. (many items for the room can be shared
among roommates, so not every person should bring them). When you pack the
liquid items, seal them in a plastic baggy as shuffling takes place in the cargo area of
the bus.
Bring a backpack or draw string bag to carry with you and to hold your cell phone,
sweatshirt, compact umbrella, spending money (spending money is not necessary
but if you are bringing some for souvenirs, $50 if plenty). Each student is allowed
one suitcase that will go under the bus and one backpack that they may keep with
them.
Snacks: Students may bring snacks for the bus and the hotel room (no energy
drinks like Monster, Amp, etc.). No cans or glass and all drinks must have lids to
prevent spills. No dairy products as refrigeration is not available. All buses have
students with severe nut allergies, so snacks must be NUT FREE!!!! You may also
want to bring a light blanket and pillow for the bus.
***Don’t forget your new DC T-shirt too!!!!! (you will receive them next week).
REMEMBER: STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL BELONGINGS
(except medication) AND MONEY!!!!!
