From the Word…
“"I give thanks to my God always for you because of the Grace of God that has been given you
in Christ Jesus, for in every way you have been enriched in him, in speech and knowledge of
every kind …1 Corinthians 1:4-5”
At Synod our Bishop called us to a year of intensive discipleship training:
“Start now assessing how your parish grows disciples. Talk about what it means to be a
disciple of Christ in your home groups and with your friends. Ask when was the last time your
parish offered a really good confirmation class that taught about being a disciple in every aspect
of life”

on 1 July 2013. It replaces the Christchurch City Bylaw No 110(1980) Cemeteries, the Waimairi
District Bylaw No 1 (1983) Cemeteries and the Banks Peninsula District Council Cemeteries
Bylaw 1996. The Bylaw allows the CCC to set the rules for the operation and management of
cemeteries it owns or administers. The Cemeteries Handbook provides the detail of those
rules. These documents can be downloaded from

Fees relevant to cemeteries can be found in the Fees and Charges Schedule on the CCC website

New Archives Resource now available.
In 1897 the Sunday Schools of the Diocese presented Bishop Churchill Julius with a very large
volume to commemorate his safe return from the Lambeth Conference and Queen Victoria’s
Diamond Jubilee celebrations. 5767 names of scholars and teachers are included in it, from all
parts of the Diocese, as well as photographs of various churches. These names have now been
indexed and can be searched. If you think your ancestor might be amongst them, contact the
archivist archivesdiochch@anglicanlife.org.nz As well as including the name of the person to
be searched, their location in 1897 would also be useful, as there are 70 people with the
surname Smith alone. There will be a $5.00 search fee.

Pentecost Pilgrimage to Israel 20 May to 11 June 2014
Is a visit to the Holy Land something you’ve always wanted to do – but thought it was too
expensive, didn’t know the best way to do it, who to go with? Well, you could be spending
Pentecost in Jerusalem next year! Revs John and Dawn Stringer from St Christopher’s Church,
Avonhead have visited Israel several times and know just what makes a great pilgrimage to the
Holy Land – taking time to savour each place – places like Galilee, Nazareth, Capernaum,
Jericho, Bethlehem, The Dead Sea, Qumran and of course having plenty of time to really get to
know the magnificent city of Jerusalem. Meeting people from all walks of life, worshipping
with them and hearing their story is a significant part of the experience. The bible will come
alive for you like never before! The trip is three weeks long, departing 20 May, and the cost is
only $6,800 including all accommodation and airfares ex Christchurch. There are places still
available for this pilgrimage. Contact John and Dawn for more information and itinerary
johndawn@xtra.co.nz or phone 03 342 7833.
