NOTICE
The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, NIT Rourkela is conducting
a Metallography Contest on 12th December 2015 as a part of the 5th National Conference on
Processing and Characterization of Materials (NCPCM-2015). The primary goal of the
contest is to advance the science of microstructural analysis by providing an opportunity for
those interested in study of materials using microscopes. All users of microscope (Optical
microscope, Electron Microscope, Atomic Force Microscope or any other microscope) can
display their work and present their significant scientific findings.
Awards and certificates will be given to winners in all the categories.
The various categories are:
1.Optical /Light
2.Scanning Electron
3.Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) or
Microscopy
Microscopy (SEM)
any other microscopy technique
In all the three categories single or multiple images with captions are expected to be used to describe
how metallography was used to help solve a problem or to describe a unique or unusual technique.
Occasionally scientific images also transcend their role as a medium for transmitting information and
contain the aesthetic qualities that transform them into objects of beauty and art. Such images can
also be submitted in each category.
Each registered contestant can submit upto 3 images (maximum one image in each category)!
Images should be printed on A4 Size papers and mounted on boards. A brief description of the image
and process should also be added.
