guide it would be expected that you write approximately 600 words in answer to the questions for each
text or a grand total of 1,800 for the whole assignment.

For a Merit your responses will show that you can recognise how texts are written and what they are saying. In
other words you will analyse the relationship between form and style, and the content of texts. In doing this you will
analyse the ideas and perspectives or the meaning and the purpose of the text.
Part of your response will show that you can accurately summarise what authors have written and can interpret an
author’s intentions with insight.
You will show that you have comprehended technical and specialist language and can use it creatively in your
responses.
Your choice of reading material should be varied enough to allow you to show that you recognise how language is
used in different social contexts. The emphasis in GD 2 on creativity is especially important in relation to AC 4.1.
You will need to show that you can recognise social, historical and cultural implications in the texts you use.
The grammar of your answers will be stable enough to support logical and fluent responses. Your Register will be
academic in tone and so in most cases will be written in the third person.
