2015 Varsity CSL - Deerfield High School

Warriors Have Outstanding CSL Championship Key Experience
ON Friday May 15th the Warriors traveled to Niles North H.S. to compete in the 2015 Outdoor
CSL North Conference Championships. The Varsity Warriors have been on quite a nice run in
the outdoor season being TOP 3 at every single outdoor invite that we have competed in and
have competed at the highest levels all season. Friday night was no different and to be honest I
do not think the league expected the quality that showed up across the meet. Many coaches
approached me and stated this was one of the toughest and deepest CSL Varsity Meets they
had ever seen in the CSL North and I whole heartedly agree. Simply put you had to be jumping,
sprinting, running, throwing, hurdling and vaulting Sectional level efforts to hang in this meet
and I really was proud of our league. To be honest when I started 17 years ago the league was
one of the weakest in the state….now it’s one of the best and I love that our league now gets us
prepared for the Sectional and State meets and that’s exactly how it should be. Having said
that the Warriors had a great night of competing with arguably the largest amount of Personal
Records I have witnessed in a long time across the Varsity AND Frosh/Soph levels. These efforts
however could not take over a Niles North team that simply stepped up HUGE everywhere as
they won the CSL Championship with 170pts as Deerfield finished Runner up with 134 points as
GBN was 3rd with 78pts to round out the TOP 3 in the league. When you score 134pts in any
league meet you’re a good team and to put that score in perspective when we won the titles in
2004, 2012, and 2013 we scored 121, 138, and 141pts…therefore this meet turned into a Duel
meet in many ways between us and NN and that’s a tough way to try and win a CSL North
Championship. We did have some amazing individual performances as our Big Boys owned
their events against the Leagues Big Boys.
The F/S Warriors had a ton of FS pulled up to Varsity and knew they were going to have really
work to have a good meet with a lineup we have never entered before. The boys did a
phenomenal job breaking the century mark with 104 pts and earning a respectful 4 th place as 1st
was GBN 148 pts, 2nd NN with 123pts, and HP with 118.5 pts to round out the Top 4. Again
anytime you score a 100pts in a league meet that’s a very solid night for your team.
It was a great night overall and the coaches could not be prouder of the time, hard work,
passion, and character these R15E Warriors put in this season and I believe these boys truly will
understand this phrase, “IF ITS WORTH WINNING, ITS WORTH LOSING”. Can’t say it any better.
