Fr Joe writes: Spiritual Gifts
St Paul tells us that there are different spiritual gifts given to each of us for the building up of the
community of God. These gifts are outpourings of the goodness of God upon his people. What a
tragedy if we never discover what our gifts are, or if we sell ourselves short by preferring others
talents to those of our own.
Our lives are for a purpose, and there are those whose lives we are meant to touch. Just as there
is someone who has brought life and love to us, so there is someone who, unknowingly perhaps,
awaits these from us. We have been given our own spiritual talents as gifts of the Spirit that we
might heal and enrich the lives of others. This is God’s doing. He invites our cooperation that his
work might be completed.
Let us pray: “Lord, preserve me from thinking that I have nothing to give to others, for that would
dishonour your gifts within me and be a waste of who I am. Teach me the truth about myself, and
help me to see the giftedness that I either miss or deny. Amen.”
