Positivity

Positivity
You are generous with praise, quick to smile, and always on the lookout for the positive in the situation. Some call
you lighthearted. Others just wish that their glass were as full as yours seems to be. But either way, people want to
be around you. Their world looks better around you because your enthusiasm is contagious. Lacking your energy and
optimism, some find their world drab with repetition or, worse, heavy with pressure. You seem to find a way to
lighten their spirit. You inject drama into every project. You find ways to make everything more exciting and more
vital. Some cynics may reject your energy, but you are rarely dragged down. Your Positivity won't allow it. Somehow
you can't quite escape your conviction that it is good to be alive, that work can be fun, and that no matter what the
setbacks, and one must never lose one's sense of humor.
Student Strategies:
General



When facing adversity, focus on the positive aspects of life.
You like to plan events and activities. Find a job, club, or class that requires you to use these skills.
Make time to relax and reflect.
Academic Life



Read ahead and be prepared for lectures and discussion groups. Utilize this preparation by asking questions
and stimulating discussion.
Formulate questions in your mind about the subject matter. Doing so will keep you active and help you learn.
Collect good stories, quotes, and anecdotes and work them into speeches, reports, essays, etc.
Study Techniques






Form study groups to discuss ideas.
Maintain your perspective on assignments. You may wait until the last minute, so plan accordingly.
Do your hardest work when you have the most energy.
While reading, take notes in the margins as you go. This will help you stay involved and help you remember
what you are learning.
It helps to study with others. You enjoy making the activity fun while you learn, so it is beneficial to study
with others who also want to learn, but have fun too.
Think of fun, even silly, ways to remember things. You are creative, and every time you use your imagination
while learning, you improve your recall.
Relationships with Others











Build friendships with students or other peers who will stimulate your thinking, as well as allow you to
stimulate their thinking.
Stay away from friends who try to discourage you from success.
Express your positive attitudes about life to others.
Make a commitment to using your strengths and your worldview to inspire others.
You have the ability to radiate energy. You can transfer this energy into everything that you do. This can help
others be effective.
Try to find a balance between what you do for others and what you do for yourself. You can drain yourself by
making too many commitments to others.
Try to surround yourself with people who complement your mentality and lifestyle.
Let positivity reign, and avoid those who are guided by negative, destructive, and defeating attitudes and
practices.
In class, make friends with whom to talk and share experiences.
Seek advice from others when facing problems. It helps to know you have people who understand what you
are going through.
The main way to implement this strength is to engage yourself actively with what you are doing. Be it
through other people or with the information itself, you need to be energized by what you are doing. Finding
others who are similarly geared really helps.
Class Selection


Pick classes that involve a lot of small group work and/or participation.
Take classes and choose a major that you find exciting and meaningful.
Co-curricular Activities




Play team sports, and motivate your team through your leadership.
Be active in extra-curricular activities.

Try to find tasks and activities that let you make decisions and get involved.
Career






Choose a career in which you can do what you do best! One way you will recognize this career is when you
realize you have fun doing the work. This doesn't mean you won't be working hard, but that to you the work
is worth it.
You will enjoy a fast-paced, stimulating work environment.
You work well with high-powered professionals, and can excel in careers that may be intimidating to some
people.
Your work must be something about which you get enthusiastic. This means that your passions and sense of
mission should be addressed through your career.
You like to encourage others and you are good at it. For this reason, consider those who you think need
encouragement the most. Think about a career in which you can serve and work with those individuals and
help them focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses.
Your strengths can be an asset in any career in which there is heavy emphasis on interfacing with people. You
could use this strength in any career, from counselor to coach, to talk show host, to salesperson, to educator,
to team leader, to manager, or any other role in which you are giving people encouragement.
