Remember, all societies at some point develop some type of
government. Governments are important with regard to how they
make decisions and distribute resources. Beginning with the
governments in Athens and Rome, government has determined
how to distribute resources, how much influence and participation
its citizens would have, and what obligations they have to the
citizens under their control.

Take a look at the map describing Freedom in the World in 2014.
What is your general impression of the map?
Compare the 2014 Freedom in the World Map with the map that appears in
CH. 2 / Section 3 of your book title “Forms of Government Around the World2007” (pg. 26-27)
What is the most common form of government of the countries identified as
‘“not free” from the 2007 map?

2. Open up the excel spreadsheet that is titled “Country Status By Region1973-2014.”
3. Identify the tabs that list each region of the world at the bottom of the
spreadsheet.
Address the following based on the data.
For each of the following regions determine if the region is becoming
“more free” or “less free” or has remained “unchanged.” From 2007 to
2014.
a. Asia-Pacific
b. Middle East/North Africa
c. Central-Eastern Europe
d. Sub-Saharan Africa
