Introduction
One of the most important parts of helping our beautiful state of Kentucky is wildlife
conservation. Wildlife conservation is where you take actions and educate yourself to protect all
animals. A common animal spotted in Kentucky is the white-tailed deer. The white-tailed deer is a
native animal to Kentucky. This essay has been written to inform readers on why good conservation
practices are important to the deer population.
Hunting to Control Deer Population
One way to help conserve white-tailed deer is by hunting. Hunting deer will help control the
deer population. That way there will not be too many or too little deer in our state. Hunting would
benefit researchers so that they could easily keep track of deer population. Also hunting will help deer
from roaming in neighborhood areas. If deer roam in crowded cites they could easily get hit by a car
causing injuries to others and much damage. Hunting can lower the number of accidents in populated
areas.
Buying Deer Hunting License and Permits
Another way to help conserve the white-tailed deer is by purchasing a hunting license and deer
permits from the state of Kentucky. This allows the state to give more money to the Kentucky

Department of Fish and Wildlife. This information is important so they can continue to educate citizens.
They will know how many people are hunting and where. Also funds will be needed to help research
more current information on the deer in order to protect them. You can donate money to Kentucky’s
Fish and Wildlife Foundation at http://www.kentuckywildlife.com/Donate.aspx.
Pollution
Pollution can be deadly to Kentucky’s wildlife community. Please don’t dispose of oil or
chemicals outside. Dispose of these liquids in their proper containers so animals will not get sick by
eating polluted food. Animals can also get their skin, hair and fur polluted if we can’t keep littering
under control. Pollution can also affect animal’s water supply. Rivers, lakes and streams can be easily
polluted causing animals to get sick from drinking bad water.
Conclusion
Some people might not agree with the hunting of the white-tailed deer. However, along with
controlling the deer population hunting deer provides many hunters with clothes and food. The
Kentucky Department of fish and Wildlife would appreciate it if everyone in Kentucky took some action
to help conserve wildlife. The public could learn more about the animals that live in Kentucky. I hope
you have learned some ways that you can help conserve Kentucky’s wildlife. For more information visit
