Julius Caesar’s Antony Speech
Antony is a very skilled orator--a person distinguished for speaking well in public. Although he remarks in the
play that he is a “plain blunt man,” he in fact possesses great rhetorical skill. Antony’s funeral oration for
Caesar is one of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches, and it most fully reveals its power and cleverness when
spoken aloud.
Your task is to rewrite Antony’s speech into a dialect of your choosing.
A dialect is defined as “a provincial, rural, or socially distinct variety of a language that differs from the
standard language, especially when considered as substandard.”
Examples: red neck, pirate, yolo, gangster, cowboy, surfer etc. Have fun with it!
