General Description of Duties: The person who will assume the position of Director of Facilities
is accepting a very important role at Sojourn. The Director of Facilities will function as a project
management for a variety of projects across the organization as well as function as a manager to
oversee general and preventative maintenance, cleaning, and general facility upkeep. This role
requires that you work well cross-functionally as you will be required to work with contractors, subcontractors, ministry leaders, co-workers, and members of the church. The person in this position
must reflect the gospel in their work, attitude and relationships with others, desiring to serve
joyfully with care and love for others. This position is established to support Sojourn ministries by
effectively managing Sojourn’s facilities. The candidate must have basic knowledge of carpentry,
electrical, and plumbing skills but also be able to manage staff and budgets. The primary function
of Sojourn Facilities is to maintain facilities that are safe, distraction free and up to code.
Responsibilities: The Director of Facilities is expected to manage a 45-hour work-week. The
Director of Facilities should constantly be looking for ways to improve our campus efficiencies
including organizing volunteer teams to help with various projects throughout the year. The
position requires strong administrative skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Googledocs etc.
Primary Functions:
 Help determine strategies for facility or property expansion.
 Work with contractors, architects, subcontractors and other vendors in all building
construction projects. Negotiate competitive bids for all projects.
 Maintain yearly facility calendars for every campus for inspections and routine
maintenance.
 Work with the Executive Pastor of Finance and Operations to develop building usage
policies.
 Work as the liaison for any outside organization who wishes to rent any of our facilities.
 Insure that the appropriate facility information is available and communicated to leaders.
 Insure that counsel and input is received from ministries or departments when their
facility usage will be impacted.
 Track all expenses and insure that projects are kept within approved budgets.
 Provide regular reports regarding expenses, change orders, delays, progress and
schedule during all construction projects.
 Assist the Executive Pastor of Finance and Operations in overseeing Sojourn’s Risk
Management strategy: liaison for property and liability Insurance across all campuses.
 Continually evaluate current and proposed systems: Deferred Maintenance, Capital
Improvement Lists, Preventative Maintenance.
 Maintaining campus specific facility plans that highlight immediate needs and include a
plan of action for achieving improvements on a 12, 24, 36 month basis.
 Oversee the Property Managers, at each campus, who are responsible for cleaning,
general maintenance, landscaping, and security for all campuses.
 Oversee facility budgets for each campus.
 Ensure that we are pursuing excellence in maintaining facilities at the campus level. This
means that we are maintaining facilities that are secure, safe, distraction free, and up to
code so that people are reached with the gospel.
Knowledge and Skills
 3-5 years experience in property management, performing management functions as well
as skill based positions.
 Strong, proven project management skills
 Knowledge of basic related skills such as: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and others.
 Computer keyboarding and software applications skills including Microsoft office
programs
 Multi-tasking, time management, and prioritizing skills
 Written and oral communication skills
 Organizational skills including scheduling, budget planning, etc.
 Ability to handle sensitive issues, maintaining confidentiality as required in all areas of
responsibility
 Ability to work with and maintain positive, loyal relationships with others, pursuing unity
for the sake of the gospel at all times
 Ability to lead, manage, develop, and inspire subordinates and volunteers
 Tact, diplomacy, and good judgment
