HEALTHCARE COURSES
EKG Technician
(120 Hours) EKG technicians administer the electrocardiogram (EKG) for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
A certification in this field will prepare you to work in hospitals, laboratories, medical or doctors’ offices, and
diagnostic imaging centers. Our program includes externship experience.

Healthcare Administrative Specialist *
(720 Hours) Learn how to be an effective employee in a healthcare office setting and become prepared for roles
such as a Patient Registrar, Unit Secretary/Coordinator, Medical Front Desk Receptionist, Medical Technician, Call
Center Representative, or Medical Biller. You’ll develop computer skills and have an opportunity to participate in
an externship to gain real world experience. Credentials earned are Certified Medical Administrative Assistant and
Certified Coding Associate (optional).

Medical Assisting *
(900 Hours) Become a Medical Assistant and be on the front line of patient care and contact. Employment in this
field is projected to grow much faster than average, ranking medical assistants among the fastest growing
occupations of the decade. Our students find jobs working closely with doctors and nurses in physician offices,
clinics, medical front offices, insurance companies and medical labs. Our full-time medical assisting program trains
students in the classroom and through externship clinical experience. Curriculum includes Anatomy & Physiology,
Law & Ethics, Medical Math, Medical Terminology, Computer Basics, Medical Insurance, Medical Office Procedures,
and Pharmacology.

Pharmacy Technician *
(990 Hours) Need a prescription for a new career? Look no further than Butler Tech’s Pharmacy Technology
program! Pharmacy technicians review patient information and measure, mix, label and dispense prescription
medications for patients under the supervision of a pharmacist. Our curriculum includes lecture, lab, and an
externship portion to give you supervised clinical experiences in two different sites with exposure to more than one
facet of pharmacy dynamics. Job opportunities are available in hospitals, medical centers, skilled nursing facilities,
private pharmacies, outpatient clinics, and pharmaceutical companies.

Phlebotomy
(120 Hours) Phlebotomy has become a very specialized area of clinical laboratory practice. Phlebotomists are
trained to draw blood for donation or laboratory tests and perform related technical procedures and associated
clerical tasks. Our graduates are well prepared for entry-level positions in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, and
other healthcare settings. Our program includes externship experience.

Practical Nursing *
(1400 Hours) Become a Licensed Practical Nurse and start a challenging, rewarding, and flexible career in nursing.
Find employment in an extended care facility, home health agency, school, hospice, or physician office. Training
includes classroom and clinical experience at area extended care facilities and hospitals. You’ll learn basic nursing
skills, adult and pediatric health, maternal & infant care, mental health concepts, community health, and
gerontological nursing. Several prerequisites must be completed before starting the program – CPR, First Aid,
STNA, Medical Math, and Medical Terminology.

State Tested Nurse Aid (STNA)
(79 Hours) Learn the basics of patient care and get a job upon completion and/or continue your education to
become a nurse. This course meets all training requirements for State of Ohio Certification Exam.

INDUSTRY COURSES
Advanced Manufacturing *
(864 Hours) Students who possess the skills taught in this class are in great demand by area manufacturers. This
program combines instruction in high-performance production processes and industrial production to prepare
students for the modern industrial workplace. Included are manufacturing & maintenance fundamentals, quality &
continuous improvement, production processes, industrial electricity, industrial mechanics, industrial fluid power,
industrial safety, basic machining, basic welding, industrial controls & Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and
automation systems & robotics. Students will receive several professional certifications.
Tuition $5,924 Fees: $2,060.44 Full-time program – financial aid available for those who qualify.
Next class scheduled for April 2013, but may hold one sooner based on demand. 13 months in length.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) *
(648 Hours) The need for qualified individuals with knowledge of commercial and residential HVAC/R systems
continues to grow. Our students are taught up-to-date skills necessary to thrive in this demanding, high tech field.
Curriculum includes schematic reading, electrical theory, wiring & controls, refrigerant handling, systems
diagnostics, complete systems repair, troubleshooting, and installation. Students are prepared to test for the
following industry credentials: EPA 608, R410a, and Industry Credential Exam (I.C.E.)

Industrial Maintenance Technology *
(900 Hours) Industrial maintenance continues to experience a high demand for trained individuals. For those
interested in working with their minds, as well as their hands, this field offers challenge and reward. Students will
gain working knowledge in industrial electricity, single & three-phase motor systems, motor control wiring &
troubleshooting, AC/DC solid state drives, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), fluid power mechanical
maintenance, and process control systems. Students will prepare and test for the following industry credentials
from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER): Core Certification, Industrial
Maintenance Electrical & Instrumentation Certification Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Industrial Welding *
(624 Hours) Because of its strength, welding is used to construct and repair bridges, skyscrapers, ships,
automobiles, spacecraft, medical equipment, and thousands of other manufactured products. Students will learn
Structural Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG), Flux Core Arc
Welding (FCAW), and shop safety. At the completion of the program they will test for the following certifications:
AWS D1/1/D1.1M (Structural Welding Certification), National Center for Construction Education and Research
(NCCER) Core Certification, National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Welding Level 1, and
OSHA 10.

PUBLIC SAFETY COURSES
Basic Police Academy *
(680 Hours) This course exceeds the minimum requirements for Peace Officer certification. Students receive
training in our state-of-the-art public safety facility which houses an indoor 20 lane firing range, computerized
firearms and driving simulators, and physical fitness facility. Students must be 20 ½ to enter the academy, so 911
Dispatcher or Private Security Training would be good training options after graduation and prior to entering the
program.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
(180 Hours) This course covers all techniques of emergency medical care presently considered within the scope of
practice of the EMT as defined by the NHTSA 2009 Standards. It is designed for individuals desiring to provide
emergency medical care with an ambulance service or other pre-hospital rescue service that routinely provides
emergency care. This course is a prerequisite for the paramedic academy.

Fire Rescue Academy *
(626 Hours) This intensive course prepares the student for a career in fire service. Experienced faculty train in the
following subject areas: fire, EMS, technical rescue, emergency vehicle operation, and hazardous materials
incidents. Both day and evening academies are offered and graduates are eligible to take the state certification
exam to become Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians in Ohio. Students will experience up to 40 hours
of live burns in our state-of-the-art propane fuelled fire tower.

Paramedic Academy *
(1000 Hours) This intensive course of study prepares students in all aspects of basic and advanced life support
procedures relevant to pre-hospital emergency care. Topics covered include patient assessment, cardiac rhythm
interpretation, defibrillation, drug therapy, and airway management. Students receive both classroom instruction
and clinical experience. Class meets occasionally on Saturdays in addition to times listed.

Private Security Academy
(132 Hours) This course provides the student with knowledge and skills to become a security officer. Topics
include: Role of Private Security, Overview of Legal System, Criminal Law, Laws of Arrest, Search & Seizure, Public
Relations, Unarmed Self Defense, Dealing with Special Needs Persons, Report Writing, Physical Security, First
Aid/CPR, Retail Security, Personnel Security, Crime Prevention, Fire Safety, and Patrol Techniques. After successful
completion of the program, student will be eligible to sit for the State of Ohio administered certification exam.

911 Dispatcher
(40 Hours) This five day course is designed to train the Emergency service Telecommunicator (Dispatcher) whose
primary responsibility is to be an operator that receives and/or processes calls for emergency services made by
telephone, radio, or other electronic means.
