NOTICE RE: GRADUATE ASSISTANT (GA) POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR
WINTER 2016
In accordance with Article 12:01 of the CUPE 4580 Collective Agreement the School of Social Work invites applications for GA positions for the Winter 2016 term. The School of Social work has
been allocated a total of 42 GA positions at 140 hours each for 2015/16. It is expected that 20 positions of 140 hrs. each will be required for Winter 2016 term, subject to sufficient enrolment and final
budgetary approval.
Eligibility requirements:
GA appointments shall be offered in accordance with the criteria specified in Article 12:03 of the Collective Agreement. In addition, preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate: expertise
in social work course material and development, and web design.
The GA Collective Agreement indicates that once offered a term of GA-ship Master students must be offered a minimum of two subsequent GA assignments to a total of 420 hours, and PhD students,
six subsequent assignments to a total of 980 hours (Article 13:01). Further, Doctoral students are given priority over Master students per one of the criteria set out in article 12:03. Therefore,
assignment will be prioritized as follows:

Previous GA commitments that cannot be filled in a subsequent term.


A student must be registered fulltime and be in good standing in order to hold a Graduate Assistantship. A full graduate assistantship requires an average of 10 hours per week for a maximum of 140
hours per semester. Refer to Articles 12, 13, and 14 of the Collective Agreement for eligibility details.
Please see the list of positions available below. Please note that all positions for new GA’s are for 140 hours for the term (10 hours a week). It is possible for GA’s to work two partial 70-hour
positions instead of one full position of 140-hours per term but there are no partial GA-ships available that are less than 140 hours for the term.
The application form is attached and must be submitted along with a copy of your most recent transcript (un-official is acceptable) to: Nancy St.Onge as per the instructions at the bottom of the
application attached.
