POSITIONS
2014-2015
President:









Act as TVM's liaison to SSMU; act a spokesperson for TVM when called upon to do so
Be ultimately responsible for TVM’s finances and budget
Conduct all day-to-day operations required for TVM's existence
Coordinate all aspects of TVM relating to member training and education, including but not
limited to, workshops, guest lecturers, member pack
Set and implement strategic direction for TVM in order to expand
Oversee all TVM events, including but not limited to, the Launch Party, the Film Festival, the
Golden Tapes gala
Ensure that all members of TVM are fulfilling their responsibilities
Run the weekly admin and executive meeting preparing agendas in advance
Have ultimate authority over all TVM output
The President must be highly organized, willing to work long hours, and have solid communication
skills.
Executive Producer:
It is the job of the EP to coordinate all phases of production and make sure all departments are reaching
their potential.
 Responsible for managing the week's release schedule, and planning in advance to ensure the
consistent release of videos
 Responsible for all creative output of TVM, including fiction and non-fiction
 Ultimately responsible for every stage of the production process
 Chair the production meetings
 Ensure all producers and associate producers are pitching stories regularly and meeting
deadlines for stories
 Implement creative and strategic direction for TVM content
 Ensure that all TVM output maintains high standards for quality and creativity
The EP should consistently give positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to help motivate and
improve TVM members.
VP Internal:



Assume presidential duties should the President be unable to fulfill his/her responsibilities
Record all meeting minutes

Oversee the production of the TVMcGuide in coordination with the Director of Publishing and
Graphics
Plan and coordinate internal TVM events (Bootcamp, Golden Tapes, exec parties)
The VP Internal must be organized, motivated and dedicated to promoting camaraderie amongst the
exec team. Strong communications and interpersonal skills are necessary as well.
VP External:




Act as liaison to other McGill clubs and services; act as liaison to media outlets at other
universities
Coordinate all contracts for which TVM receives monetary compensation
Organize and coordinate advertising and promotion of TVM programming and events, including
but not limited to, the distribution of the TVMcGuide, flyers, classroom announcements
Organize and coordinate, in collaboration with the members of the executive, TVM events
including but not limited to, the Film Festival, the Launch Party, and the Golden Tape gala
VP Finance




Allocate the budget to the different productions (News, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Promotional),
projects (Fokus, Boot Camp, Workshops) as well as capital expenses (Equipment, Computer
Software, Computer Expenses..) in a way that will best represent the service’s mandate.
Handle all operations in a timely fashion, i.e reimbursements or purchase orders.
Work closely with the SSMU’s VP Finance and Operations to justify the service’s budget and
operations.
Be an active member of the Admin team to continuously improve TVM and help oversee the
administration of TVM and work to ensure the future success of TVM
Chief Editor
Department: Post-Production, Support and Operations (as member of Admin)
Associated with: IT Director, Editors, Graphics Director, Sound Techs, and Executive Producer
Responsibilities:
 Oversee the Editing department
o Assigns editing projects to editors and general members
o Reviews videos before they are posted (includes giving feedback to editor
and helping
with re-editing of videos)
o Ensure all programming meets TVM standards of quality in editing
o Keep track of all productions in post-production and their progress
o Make sure all editing deadlines are met
o Ensure all Editors and members of the post-production department are proficient enough in
the required editing software to fulfill their job description.
 Offer at least 4 editing workshops per Semester
 Continuously search for improvements and instill best practices within TVM regarding Postproduction, organization, and utilization of editing software.
 Archive all videos
 Provide editing insight and advice to other members of the production team
 Be proficient in TVM editing programs

Work closely with the IT Director to ensure healthy operation of the entire TVM Computer network.
Work closely with the Executive Producer to coordinate production teams with post-production and
editing efforts.

Editor
Department: Post-Production
Reports to: Chief Editor
Responsibilities:
 Work with the Chief Editor to ensure all TVM content is edited on time and with a high level of
technical quality
 Provide editing insight and advice to other members of the production team
 Is expected to edit at least two TVM videos per semester, at least one of which is a contract piece.
 Is expected to provide at least one workshop in the area of post-production per semester
Sound Technician
Department: Post-Production
Reports to: Chief Editor
Responsibilities:
 Work with the Chief Editor and Executive Producer to ensure all TVM content exhibits a high
technical quality with respect to Sound and Audio
 Provide audio editing insight and advice to other members of the production team
 Is expected to edit at least one TVM video per semester
 Is expected to provide at least one workshop in the area of audio editing and production per semester
Arts & Culture Producer
Department: Production
Reports to: Executive Producer
 Oversee the production of all stories classified as Arts & Culture
 Expected to pitch stories every week at general member meetings
 Coordinate all logistics pertaining to any Arts & Culture shoot, including but not limited to ensuring
all crew members are on time, have the relevant contact information, have the relevant experience
 Ensure that crew members, especially editors, meet deadlines set by the Arts & Culture Producer
 Ensure that all Arts & Culture stories meet the quality standards of TVM and be required to meet a
quota set by the Executive Producer
Arts & Culture Associate:
Department: Production
Reports to: Executive Producer, Arts & Culture Producer
 Assist the Arts Producer with all aspects of the Arts department (student life, interviews with artists,
etc.)
 Attend meetings and help other TVM members with projects/shoots
 Responsible for producing Arts videos throughout the semester

 Oversee the production of all stories classified as News
(including documentaries)
 Provide coverage of and access to student issues through news stories and live-streaming
 Help associates and general members produce their own news stories
 Expected to pitch stories every week at general member meetings
 Coordinate all logistics pertaining to any News shoot, including but not limited to ensuring all
crew members are on time, have the relevant contact information, have the relevant experience
 Ensure the crew members, especially editors, meet deadlines set by the News Producer
 Keep up to date on breaking news stories on McGill campus and ensure these stories have
adequate coverage and are uploaded in a timely manner
 Required to meet any quotas set by the Executive Producer
The News Producer needs to be dedicated, committed to journalism, and willing to spend a fair amount
of time producing not only their own content but also guiding other TVM News journalists.
New Associate:

 Assist the News Producer with all aspects of the News department
 Produce news pieces related to the McGill Community/ student opinion

Drama Producer:
Department: Production
Reports to: Executive Producer
The Drama producer is responsible for all dramatic narrative feature and short films, as well as
documentary with some creative fictional series. The Drama producer must be very organized,
enthusiastic and passionate about their work, and supporting the work of others.

 directs and teaches others how to effectively and creatively express a story through images and
writing

 Be expected to seek out scripts to work with
 Be expected to train general members in the production of a piece of fiction

Comedy Associate

 Assist the Comedy Producer with all aspects of the Comedy department
 Create and coordinate comedy projects for the TVM audience
 Help general members who want to produce or edit their own comedic content
Music Producer

 Oversee the production of MonreaLive and any new music related content
 expected to pitch stories every week at general member meetings
 Coordinate all logistics pertaining to any Music shoot,

Illustrator and After Effects
 Oversee other members of Graphics and Publishing
o Assigns graphic design projects to graphic designers
o Reviews graphics before they are submitted
o Ensure all Graphic Designers and members of the Graphics department are proficient enough
in the required software to fulfill their job description.
 Offer at least 4 Graphic Design workshops per Semester
 Continuously search for improvements and instill best practices within TVM regarding Graphics,
Design, and Publishing.
Graphic Designer

Animation Specialist
Department: Graphics and Publications
Reports to: Graphics and Publishing Director
Responsibilities:
 Support Production by providing title sequences, graphics and expertise in Adobe Photoshop,
Illustrator and After Effects, with a focus on Animation
 Offer at least 1 Animation workshop per Semester
 Continuously search for improvements and instill best practices within TVM regarding Graphics,
Design, and Animation.

Technical Director (Stipended)
Department: Support and Operations
Associated with: Executive Producer, VP Finance, Sound Techs, and SSMU IT staff.
Responsibilities:
 Oversee the manage the production equipment
o Ensure the organization and smooth operation of TVM’s equipment booking system
o Perform basic maintenance on any malfunctioning equipment
o Operate TVM’s online booking system
o Maintain an updated inventory of all of TVM’s production equipment, relaying this
information to SSMU IT staff.
o Ensure a comfortable stock of expendable production resources
 Be proficient in the use of all TVM’s production equipment.
 Offer at least 3 production workshops per Semester
 Continuously search for improvements and instill best practices within TVM regarding the use and
organization of TVM’s production equipment.
 Provide production insight and advice to all members of the production team
 Work closely with the Executive Producer to be a valuable and knowledgeable resource regarding
the use or production equipment, to better technical quality of TVM productions.
 Be in close contact with the VP Finance, Admin group and SSMU IT staff, regarding the current
state of TVM’s production equipment, and the expansion of TVM’s production equipment inventory.
IT Director (Stipended)

 Administer the TVM Server
o Ensure proper security protocol
o Maintain shared access to all files
o Maintain server organization and cleanliness
o Troubleshoot and repair server upon operation failure
 Work closely with the Chief editor to ensure healthy operation of the entire TVM Computer network.
 Oversee software installation and maintenance of the entire network
 Advise the admin upon any issues relating to the computer technologies used by TVM
 Continuously search for improvements and instill best practices within TVM regarding IT.
 Disseminate IT knowledge to any member of TVM interested in the subject
 Ensure continued operation of www.tvmcgill.com and assist in any reformats or redesigns required
for its use.
Production Designer (Head of Production Design department)

Design with the producer/writer a unified visual style for their piece and follow up with the
development of the final vision.
Assign production designers to the pieces that need the most help and perform as production
designer as well when needed.

 Manages Marketing Graphics Designer and Social Media Coordinator
 Oversees marketing campaigns and projects to increase TVM’s visibility and interact with the
McGill community
 Coordinate with Graphic and Publishing Department to have a unified approach to TVM’s
branding
Marketing Graphics Designer
Department: Graphics and Publications, Promotion
Reports to: Graphics and Publishing Director, Marketing Director
Responsibilities:
 Support Production by providing title sequences, graphics and expertise in Adobe Photoshop,
Illustrator and After Effects, with a focus productions for the promotion team.
 Edit at least one video for the promotional department per semester
 Work closely with the Marketing Director and the rest of the promotional department to continually
improve and expand the image of TVM and expand TVM’s professional network.
Social Media Coordinator:

 Build TVM’s online presence via social media platforms
 Post TVM videos on Twitter and Facebook
