National Board of Directors Meeting
National Secretary Report-Submitted by Tom Mullin
Since our last meeting in August of 2015. I have had the opportunity to participate in numerous
activities and projects of the Association. Some were related directly to my role as secretary others
were as National Board member or member assisting with association activities. Below is a quick
summary of the work in the past 3 months
National Secretary
Working with the President and Executive Director coordinate agenda, reports and committee updates
for the National Board meetings in Summer 2015 Fort Collins board meeting and the upcoming
November 2015 in Virginia Beach
Participated in monthly Executive Director update conference call meetings. Prepared commentary and
questions for all of them.
Work on the Book of Motions continues. Anticipated completion is November Board meeting.
Invited to become a Blog writer for the NAI Webpage. Anticipated to begin in October 2015
Several Executive Committee conference calls or updates to ensure close communication during the
intervening months between board meetings.
Worked to update and ensure accuracy of the minutes from the August National Board Meetings.
Certified the elections of the National Board of Directors and Executive Committee in Fall 2015
National Board Related Activities
Continued the facilitation of the discussions and future role of Research in NAI including Journal of
Interpretive Research future. Recommendations will be forthcoming in November
Assisted in the facilitation of the discussions regarding the revision of the Scholarship opportunities
within the National office. Recommendations will be forth coming in November
Served as a member of the Development Committee. Worked closely with Chair Jim Covel and
Executive Director Margo Carlock. Served as a resource for the Executive Director in the planning for
the launch of the first annual giving campaign
Served as informal representative of the Association at numerous affiliate group meetings in the past 6
months. At the International Trails Symposium, Leave No Trace Leadership Conference, National
Conservation Lands Conference I was an advocate and spokesperson for NAI.
NAI Related Activities for Sections, Regions, Chapter and OU projects
Facilitated the second year of the Unity College Student Chapter of NAI. Approximately 30 students are
members . The President and Vice President of the chapter were NAI Undergraduate Recipients and will
be attending the National Conference in Virginia Beach.
Served as Treasurer for the CUA Section and provided the required documentation for the AC/OU
requirements.
Participated routinely in Northeast Regional monthly conference calls and indeed facilitated the initial
meetings to keep the region on track. Success is measure in some increments, but so far so good.
Served as reviewer for the 2016 International Conference Research Track Concurrent session process.
Served as Judge for the 2015 Legacy Awards project
