DEBATE ORAL ASSIGNMENT
Topic: ‘that evacuation from property should be compolsory during times of
natural disaster.’
In teams of 3 you are to prepare an oral debate. Your team will either be ‘for’ or
‘against’ the topic.
Each speaker is to speak for 3 minutes including rebuttal.
If a team chooses to make personal attacks/statements about the other team
they will be disqualified.
There will be people judging the debates.

Oral preparation in computer rooms.
Decide who the first speaker, second
speaker and third speaker are.
Brainstorm the arguments.
Guess the arguments of the other team.
Preparation in class. Brainstorm
arguments. Start writing speeches.
Debate in class (to be assessed).
You MUST read the assessment sheet before you plan your presentation. It says
exactly what you can do to get the best mark you can.
There will be no extensions.
Remember your persuasive language techniques. Think about how you can use
EMOTIVE language? Repetition? Facts and statistics?
