2. Give each student a total score out of 16

Part B:

1. Fill out the goal setting side of the rubric by entering “This week’s assessment score”

2. Write a comment in the “notes” section explaining an area that you think would most help the student’s learning.

3. Create goal “scores” that assume the student achieves the improvement(s) listed in the “notes” section.

Scenario 1:

Attendance= This week Jim came to class every day, and he was never late.

Responsibility= In a typical 80 minute class, he worked for perhaps 35 minutes.

He completed all his assignments for Learning Strategies, but the work was rushed and Jim didn’t put much effort or thought into them. Jim brought his assignments from other classes but it was old work that was due long ago. He had a quiz this week but did not study. He completed a self assessment on Friday, but the back side was not fully done.

Respect= Jim spent the majority of the time chatting or playing games on his phone which was disruptive to the other students. When asked to get back to work he was resistant and only worked if a teacher sat down and forced him to. 2 times he borrowed a textbook and pencil crayons and was sure to return them at the end of class. He regularly ate his lunch in class and occasionally left wrappers from the packaging on the work tables. Jim did not ask for help even though he needed it.

Relationships= Jim got some work returned and showed it to his Learning

Strategies teacher. However, he did not speak to his teachers, or email them, about his overall grade or progress. He showed his LS teacher that he has received all of the assignments from all his classes. He had a quiz this week but didn’t tell his Learning Strategies teacher about it.

Scenario 2:

Attendance= This week Jane skipped 1 class every day, and she was late for all her classes.

Responsibility= Overall, Jane uses her time well and was able to get caught up in all her classes because she worked for the majority of the time that she was in class. She is totally up to date in all her classes, including Learning Strategies, and even showed her teacher an essay so that she could get feedback on it the day before it was due. She had no tests this week, but still spent time reviewing and made a set of study cards using cram.com

Respect= Even though Jane is an extrovert and likes to work with others, she was usually on task and did not take others away from doing their work. She did however let others take her away from her work on occasion and could have helped herself and others by using strategies to prevent this from occurring. Jane asked for help when she needed it and used suggestions from the 202 staff when she was getting feedback on her work. She did not leave any mess behind and she reminded her friend to grab her garbage when they were leaving class.

Relationships= Jane sent out an email to her teachers asking for them to send her a progress report so that she was aware of her grades. Because she skipped classes this week, she did not receive the latest assignment for her English class and does not yet know when it is due. She did however speak to her Learning

Strategies teacher and informed them about the situation so that they could help.

Jane checked in with her Learning Strategies teacher every day that she was there to give an update on progress, upcoming tests, and “check in”.
