Macarthur Girls High School
LOCKER POLICY & PROCEDURES
All lockers are the property of Macarthur Girls High school. Students can obtain locker application forms
from the school office.
Lockers are hired from the date of issue until the end of Year 12 EXCEPT for the final week of term 4
each year. Due to Health & Safety procedures, all lockers will be opened and checked to ascertain that
no perishable goods have been left in them during the last week of Term 4 each year. Any items of this
nature will be removed and disposed of to prevent Health issues.
Lockers are for the sole use of the student on the agreement form only. It cannot be shared with another
student. Only one student can sign the locker agreement form, and will therefore be taking sole
responsibility of the locker. The school assumes NO responsibility for loss or damage of any item in a
locker, locked or unlocked. Access to lockers is before school, after school, recess and lunch periods.
Lateness to class because of lockers may result in the loss of the locker.
The lockers are made available for student use to store school supplies and personal items necessary
for use at school. Lockers are not to be used to store items which cause, or can reasonably be foreseen
to cause, an interference with school purposes or an educational function of which are forbidden by
school rules, DEC and the law. This includes items of a hazardous or illegal nature (eg weapons, drugs,
cigarettes, alcohol, flammable substances or other contraband).
The Principal, Deputy Principal or person(s) delegated by a senior executive member have the right to
forgo any hire of lockers, to open lockers and carry out searches of lockers to assure safety for the
school community as outlined in the Department of School Education Policy. Students/parents cannot
appeal the decision of the school regarding the allocation of lockers.
Locks
Locks will be supplied by the school on a hire basis. A lock deposit fee will be added to the hire cost and
will be refunded on return of the lock at the end of the hire period.
Students are to maintain the security of their own lockers. The code for the lock is to be kept private and
not shared with other students. Students are to treat their locks with care to ensure, as much as is
practicable, that they are kept in good working order.
Inspection of Lockers
An inspection of all lockers will be conducted at any time throughout the year by the Principal or delegate
assigned by the Principal without notice and without parental/guardianship or pupil consent. This may
include Police Officers.
The Principal or delegate shall respect the privacy of the student regarding any items that are not illegal
or against school policy and rules.
