Wayne County Civil War Roundtable “Major Thomas Eckert & President Abraham
Lincoln”
Hear the story of Major Thomas Eckert, the chief telegrapher in the War Department
during the war, who grew up in Wooster, Ohio. He was the town's first telegraph
operator. Eckert will be presented by Craig Forcell, Also, during the evening, President
Abraham Lincoln, presented by Gerald Payn, will tell about the last few days of his
life. Beginning with his second inaugural address, the President will tell about his visit to
City Point, the evacuation of Richmond, the surrender of Gen. Lee, and the festivities in
