CALL FOR PAPERS
Submission Deadline for abstract: 28 February 2014
The 2nd MERYC-UK conference will be hosted by the Faculty of Music,
University of Cambridge at the Mary Allen Building, 184, Hills Road,
Cambridge CB2 8PQ. We are indebted to Dr Pamela Burnard for
supporting this event within the British Educational Research
Association (BERA) Creativity Special Interest Group (SIG).
This 2nd conference follows the first meeting in 2012 at University of
Roehampton and is led by the UK network of MERYC affiliated to EuNet
MERYC that hosts a European conference biennially. MERYC UK hosts
its meetings on the alternate biennial years.
This one-day conference aims to explore the nature of partnerships in
music with young children. We welcome abstracts relating to one or
more of these areas:
Play
Musicality
Professionalism
Families
We welcome presentations that may encourage interactive
participation through discussion, digital technologies, practical
activities, dissemination of research and innovative practice. These
relate to music in early childhood (0-8 years), in education (both inside
and outside school), informal learning contexts and everyday life.
We welcome abstracts from participants from UK and Europe. These
will be reviewed anonymously.

SUBMISSION
Submissions of abstracts are invited for:

Spoken practice papers

Spoken Papers
Spoken papers will be allocated 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes for
questions and discussion.
Spoken research papers: these will be presentations of
research projects, explaining aims, method, data analysis, findings and
conclusion.
Spoken practice papers: these will be presentations of
practice, explaining novel approaches, pedagogical or other related
theories, accompanied by discussion of implications for future practice.
Demonstrations/workshops
The timing for these will be 45 minutes, including discussion.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
All abstracts for spoken papers and workshops must be sent by filling in
the application form below, which should then be emailed to

There will be no proceedings produced of the day and a full paper will
not be required. Abstracts will be compiled and be made available
on the day.
Submissions will be blind-reviewed.
