Urgent Bacchus Marsh traffic works must start now!
It has been just over a year since the previous state government and VicRoads announced $38
million in funding for works to ease traffic congestion, improve safety and reduce travels times in
Bacchus Marsh, and Moorabool Shire Council is urging the current State Government to
commence works on this vital infrastructure.
Moorabool Mayor Cr Paul Tatchell said the works were announced after extensive community
consultation and the community wanted to see work begin.
The works announced comprised:
 Construction of east facing ramps and a dedicated pedestrian bridge at Halletts Way/Western
Freeway (estimated at $12.5 million)
 Upgrade and gazettal of Woolpack Road South of Bacchus Marsh Road including bridge and
road improvements and electronic alert signs
 Upgrade of Hopetoun Park Road to improve access to the Western Freeway
 Upgrade of the off ramp at the Bacchus Marsh Road exit (east)
The east facing ramps and pedestrian bridge at Halletts Way is a $12.5 million component of the
broader Western Link project. The State Government is responsible for delivering this project that
has serious safety concerns for pedestrians. Council is progressing the other sections of the
Western Link with grant funding, developer contributions and Council funds. This link will ensure
there is access from West Maddingley through to Gisborne Road using Halletts Way and O'Leary
Way. The total cost of the Western Route project is in excess of $29 million.
To date, Council has successfully obtained $1.25 million in state government funding and $2.177
million federal government funding for part of the works at the West Maddingley end of the
Western Route.
“This funding is greatly appreciated, however there a strong reliance on the funding of the east
facing ramps to make the Western Route a reality.
“I am urging the current state government to commence works on this critical piece of infrastructure
to improve the safety, amenity and travel times for our 19,000 Bacchus Marsh residents," Cr
Tatchell said.
