SEASON SUMMARY 2012 – 2013
(unless noted otherwise, all notes are from JoAnne Jonathan)
TEAM MEALS (what was served, how were costs covered, etc.)
Sue McDonald was in charge of snack schedule. She filled in match dates w/names on the roster. She
tried to make sure she didn’t ask a JV parent to provide snacks for a Varsity only match and vice-versa.
SENIOR NIGHT (how long was event, where held, describe the event, costs, how costs
were covered, # of volunteers needed)
It was a ceremony before a home match towards the end of the season. Parents of the seniors were
attending and mom got a rose. Mr. Lustig gave a very nice introduction to the ten players and their
assets and where they plan to go to college. There were 4 seniors and it took 15-20 minutes. The
senior parents also put a poster board of their senior daughter together themselves to reflect the
tennis life of their daughter. There were snacks as well.
PACK THE HOUSE NIGHT (Describe event, special activities, giveaways, costs, etc.)
Can’t remember if there was one. If so, there are never many people other than family attending.
CYO NIGHT (Describe event, special activities, giveaways, costs, etc.)
Didn’t have one.
LOCKER DECORATIONS (Described decorations, costs, how costs were covered)
A subcommittee decorated senior lockers one year and varsity another. JoAnne Jonathan was on that
subcommittee several years back. The parents in charge picked up the decoration costs - a picture of
the girls, a star, and some crepe paper and shiny ribbon.
SPIRITWEAR/PRACTICE PACKS (What was ordered/required)
There are uniforms that a group of girls went to IRC and picked up. Parents paid for those individual
uniforms. There was some practice warm up stuff too, but just the basics (warm-up pants and long
sleeve tops were required). There were additional options if desired. Angie Gelov took charge of this
with the girls.
OTHER SPECIAL TEAM EVENTS (Please describe events, including costs)
Mr. Lustig hosts a dinner the night before a Merrillville tourney and also hosts a breakfast before a
local Saturday tourney.
SERVICE PROJECT(S) (What was the project, where did it take place, # of hours, # of
volunteers):
Had a service project with the boys tennis team in the fall.
END OF SEASON PARTY/COACH’S GIFT (Describe event, costs, how costs were covered,
volunteers needed)
Sue McDonald sent an e-mail to the parents letting them know that they would be collecting money for
the Coach’s gifts. If they were interested in giving, they could mail their contribution to her or give it to
her at a match. They purchased a new computer bag for the head coach and restaurant gift certificates
and another type of certificate to the coaches. We had a party in 2012 and in 2011 there was a party at
Angie Gelov’s house w/a nice pitch-in.
MISCELLANEOUS SEASON INFORMATION/VOLUNTEER NEEDS:
There was a team/parent meeting in the beginning asking for parents to volunteer for each spot. We
also had 2 fundraisers last year. One was for the wind screens and that was a letter solicitation to ALL
tennis teams headed up by Julie Seta and we had a parent tennis fun night at IRC in February headed
up by Dianne Vuotto and JoAnne Jonathan. There were posters made of the varsity girls that hung on
the tennis fences, each parent was responsible for the cost – (see info on the website regarding where
these should be purchased). Team travel was taken care of by car pool and not buses.
