MEF GEN14 Proof of Concept Showcase

1 Introduction

August 2014

This is the Call for Proposals to be a participant in the "Proof of Concept Showcase" to be held as part of MEF GEN14 event,

18-19 November 2014, Washington, DC at the Gaylord National. This is a follow up to the call for interest in the project which confirmed that there is a strong desire to use the event to showcase innovation and leadership in Carrier Ethernet and its surrounding technologies. The MEF has now formally approved the project and has retained the services of wellknown MEF member company, EANTC to manage all aspects of the project.

2 Proof of Concept Showcase

GEN14 is focused on defining the future of network-enabled cloud, data, and mobile services powered by the convergence of Carrier Ethernet 2.0, SDN, and virtualization technologies. The centerpiece of the GEN14 Exhibition area is the Proof of

Concept Showcase, which will provide an opportunity for service providers and network technology providers to spotlight innovations that promise to reshape the services & technology landscape.

Team approaches are encouraged: service providers and network technology providers coming together to showcase the results that can be achieved when the innovators in our industry collaborate.

Participation will be limited to a maximum of 4 demonstrations involving partnering groups or individual companies. Submissions will be assessed by a small panel, and the top 4 submissions will be selected.

 Cost for participation will be on a cost-recovery basis. See the Cost section below for more information.

3

Showcase Objectives

The Showcase is an opportunity:

To provide a preview of the future of global networking as it impacts a target audience of 1,500 attendees at

GEN14. This includes professionals from retail, wholesale, mobile service providers; data center providers; cloud service providers; enterprises, government institutions, utilities, network solutions vendors, the press, investors, and analyst firms, and other companies.

To raise awareness and educate the Business and Government communities about existing state-of the-art

Ethernet services.

To show to your market leadership in network connectivity and value-added services in all forms, today and tomorrow, during and after the event.

3.1

Showcase Topic Suggestions

The following are just a few of many possible ideas.

Automated end-to-end service delivery over physical and virtual networks.

Ethernet Access services delivered and managed across multiple service provider domains monitored by vNID functionality, etc.

Interactive, live demonstrations of Ethernet services utilizing NFV elements and/or SDN management, with connections to remote labs and live sites.

Demonstrations of new MEF NaaS (Network as a Service) characteristics of agile, assured, and orchestrated services.

Demonstrations that combine new dynamic, bandwidth-on-demand or performance-on-demand services with cloud-based applications.

 Other Ideas that show collaboration, partnership, and innovation that will support the focus of GEN14.

4 Showcase Format & Location

August 2014

The showcases will be in the form of 20 minute slots during the lunchtime and cocktail exhibition times.

About 7 hours of main screen time will be divided among participants.

The showcases will largely consist of live remote demonstrations with on-site presentations.

The center of the exhibition floor will be the focus and presentation points for the GEN14 showcases with network connection to live working networks, labs and demonstration areas within the partner locations. Each participant will also have an additional counter when not presenting on the main screen.

4.1

Notes and Guidelines

The goal is that on-site labs or costly equipment transportation or staging should not be necessary to execute the showcase.

Each showcase will have a presenter, possibly in dialog with a streamed partner at a remote lab or other remote location.

 The MEF will make available HD cameras and network connections to link to remote lab areas and remote interviews.

The additional counter space shown in the above diagrams feature a large flat screen monitor, graphics display area, power, and secure storage. This is exclusively available to Showcase participants

This will be a showcase for innovation, not for canned presentations or competitive product pitches.

 Partnerships among services providers, enterprises, government organizations, cloud providers, co-location organizations, equipment manufacturers, test equipment companies, software or systems integrators are preferred.
