POSITION: EARLY CHILDHOOD BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST
Immediate Supervisor:
Special Education Director
General Responsibility:
To provide a comprehensive social emotional program for children birth through five, their families, and
the community including screening, assessment, intervention and training.
Minimum Educational/Certification Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work,
early childhood or a related field and appropriate licensure/certification.
Experience:
Job related experience is desired.
Essential Functions:
1. Must be able to interact in a positive and effective manner with a wide variety of people including
children, parents, families, staff members, and community members in order to promote positive
relationships within the work setting and community.
2. Must be able to meet time lines for required program documentation such as (but not limited to)
case note documentation, child outcome summary forms, assessment reports as well as any
required reports related to the job, child goals, objectives, etc. and manage multiple priorities
associated with the requirements of the job while maintaining an effective and efficient work
schedule.
3. Must have the ability to gain knowledge and adhere to the Rules and Regulations Governing
Services to Children with Disabilities according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
(IDEA).
4. Must be reliable, organized and detail oriented.
5. Must possess extensive computer experience and ability.
6. Must have knowledge of informal and formal assessment tools and be able to administer informal
assessments.
7. Must be able to accurately interpret assessment results and provide an assessment report in a clear,
concise, accurate and timely fashion.
8. Must attend IEP/IFSP meetings and assist in appropriate plan development.
9. Must formulate functional goals and objectives based on individual needs of children.
10. Must maintain an effective and efficient schedule.
11. Must attend scheduled team meetings and schedule other meetings as needed.
12. Must coordinate social-emotional components of the program including referrals, assessment for
eligibility, treatment for children and families, training for personnel, and training for community
partners
13. Must provide developmentally appropriate therapy services to children who exhibit socialemotional challenges.
14. Must provide support and assistance for program staff, community partners and parents to develop
plans that address a child’s social-emotional challenges while maintaining the least restrictive
environment according to a child’s IFSP/IEP.
Essential Functions (cont’d):
15. Must maintain knowledge of early childhood social-emotional development issues and practices
sufficient to perform the duties at a high level of quality.
16. Must provide reflective supervision opportunities for early childhood intervention/education
providers.
17. Must ensure the safety of all enrolled children and families participating in CDC programs.
18. Must follow all policies and procedures of the Child Development Center
19. Must attend required staff meetings and trainings.
20. Must perform other duties as assigned.
21. Must demonstrate self-initiative in performing the above responsibilities as well as the ability to carry
out these responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.
22. Must report any reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect to an appropriate community
agency.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
1. Must be able to work in a variety of positions, including but not limited to: stooping, kneeling,
crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting, etc.
2. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. unassisted.
3. Must be able to tolerate air conditioned buildings and fluorescent lights.
4. Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment.
5. Must be able to hear and process ordinary conversation, telephone conversation, and quiet sounds
with or without aid.
6. Must be able and willing to drive to meet job requirements.
7. Must be able to operate and use equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
