PRESS RELEASE
12th February, Kathmandu: The Community of Evaluators (CoE) in collaboration with Community of
Evaluators Nepal (CoE-Nepal), announces its Second Evaluation Conclave from 26th February to 1st
March 2013 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The objective of the conclave is to bring together thinkers,
commissioners and practitioners of evaluation in an interactive forum to discuss, deliberate and
share advancements in the theory and practice of evaluation.
Tricia Wind, IDRC says “The CoE’s first Conclave in New Delhi in October in 2010 brought together
over 300 participants from South Asian and beyond. Evaluation Conclave 2013 promises to bring
together a wide array of global and South Asian thinkers, government representatives, evaluators,
policy makers, donors, academicians, and students for this four-day event.”
Gana Pati Ojha, Founder CoE South Asia & CoE Nepal, adds; “The cross-cutting themes of the
Conclave will be Participation, Practices, Policies and Utilization in the field of evaluation. The
following sub-themes have been identified for the conclave: Poverty Alleviation; Agriculture, Food
Security and Nutrition; Gender and Inequities; Environment; and Governance and Social
Accountability.”
The Theme of the second Conclave - Evaluation for Development - emphasizes that evaluation
should ultimately make a difference in the lives of people. Evaluation is particularly critical in the
context of South Asia, home to complex social structures, high rates of poverty, gender
discrimination, dynamic forces of globalization sweeping traditional societies and the presence of
myriad development projects for the large populations of this region. Innovative evaluation
approaches and practices are particularly important in such intricate contexts.
