AP Summer Homework For 2015 – 2016
Art Course Donation (Purchase of Books)
While there is no course donation suggested, I do HIGLY RECOMMEND that instead, you purchase 2 books:
1. Art History (4TH Edition) by Marilyn Stokstad & Michael Cothren. This is NOT the newest edition of the book, so it is
much less expensive! On amazon.com there are currently 65 used books starting at $55.73. The book is also for rent
from Amazon for a lower price but be forewarned that the rental term ends in December, so you have to renew the
rental then, which would cost more than the initial purchase of $55. This book is much a better-written book (in my
opinion) than the school issued books that you be receiving on the 12th (Gardner’s Art Through the Ages). The AP Art
History exam is created using both books as a reference. I will be using both books to teach the course and I think it
will give you an advantage to have both books at your disposal.

2. The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to Post-Modern (2nd Edition) by Carol
Strickland. This is the newest edition of this book, but it still very reasonably priced, with 63 Used starting at $12.99
and 49 New starting at $11.60 on amazon.com. This book is the “Cliff Notes” version of art history. This is a fast and
efficient reference guide that will be an asset to you as you prepare for quizzes and exams. I will also be using this
book to teach the course.
