The countryside is picturesque,
with quiet roads winding
through golden fields and
pastures. There are even routes
that run along tree-lined roads
with views of sailboats in the
various bays. Book one of the
plentiful bed and breakfast and
explore the many bicycle routes
available.
CRUISING
AROUND THE
THOUSAND
ISLANDS
T
he St. Lawrence River,
flowing in from Lake
Ontario becomes in the
course of a few miles, so wide
and so full of islands that it was
called the Lake of the 1000
Islands. As a vacation paradise it
is world renowned. The river, 15
miles at its source, gradually
narrows to five miles in width,
and the islands vary in size from
mere points of rock to those of
several square
miles in area.
A cruise
around the
islands is a
lovely way to
experience the
area and range from 1 ½ hours
to 3 hours in length. Cruises
leave Kingston several times
Summer 2014
throughout the day during the
summer.
Another must see in the
Kingston, Ontario area is Fort
Henry which is a spectacular
historic site.
