Take Pride in Kerbside Recycling!
A friend recently confided in me. He told me that one evening instead of emptying some containers and
recycling them, he threw them out with the rubbish.
Nothing strange about that is there?!
Maybe not, but after a night spent tossing and turning the guilt got too much; he leapt from bed and
retrieved the containers from the rubbish bin!
After emptying them, he placed them in the recycle bin with a smile and a great sigh of relief.
He takes pride in kerbside recycling!
You might be aware that recyclables are valuable resources, that when recycled allow us to save water,
energy, greenhouse gas emissions and landfill space.
For example, recycling one tonne of paper saves 13 trees and thousands of litres of water.
Would you be surprised to know that up to 25 percent of the materials that make up our rubbish bins could
have been recycled?
Many of the recyclable items found in rubbish bins originate in the bathroom or laundry.
All cardboard packaging, toilet rolls, shampoo bottles and pump packs can be recycled. Even if they had
nasty substances in them such as bleach – so long as they’re empty.
