GENERAL DESCRIPTION/DUTIES
Ability to work as part of an integrated learning services team, providing assistance to students with
special needs which may include:
 learning challenges, intellectual challenges, physical challenges, behavioural needs, visual and
hearing challenges
 proficiency with computers in order to assist students in using computer technology such as:
Successmaker, Cowriter, Pixwriter
Specific duties may include supporting students’ needs in the areas of:
 cultural support (Aboriginal, International Education and ELL positions)
 targeted instructional interventions for individual or small groups under the direction of the teacher
 observation, data collection and record-keeping
 communication and technology
 behaviour support (implementing behaviour plans and ensuring student safety)
 arrival and departure via bus or taxi transportation
 physical management of personal and health care routines as directed such as:
- glucose monitoring (assist students with blood testing using a glucometer); seizure
management; feeding; toileting; mobility; clothing; lifting; medication
 accompanying students and participating in community field trips to swimming pool, bowling, etc.

Educational Interpreter
Under the general direction of the Administrative Officer or designate,
the Educational Interpreter provides assistance and support to students
through the implementation of individual educational programs and acts
as an interpreter between the deaf and hard of hearing students and
staff, the integrated classroom teacher, hearing students and other
hearing school personnel.
Depending on the nature of the student(s), the emphasis of the program
is to provide students with the appropriate social, motor, language and
living skills for them to become integrated into the school system and
the community.
Working in conjunction with, and under the supervision of, the
classroom teacher and the Hearing Resource Teacher, the incumbent
performs a variety of tasks in accordance with established policies and
procedures. Judgment and independent is exercised in handling
assignments and determining work methods. Work is reviewed
periodically for quality of service and for adherence to established
standards of performance. Ability to implement a personal care plan for
physically or mentally challenged students including but not limited to
toileting and/or catheterization, mobility training, lifting, seizure
management, feeding, personal hygiene and supervision of medication.
The successful candidate will have Grade XII supplemented by an
Interpreter Training Diploma or completion of an Intervener Training
program and a willingness to participate in ongoing training with the
Provincial Outreach Program for Students who ***are deaf***.
This position provides one-on-one support for a ***deaf*** student,
facilitating communication between other students and staff to enable
participation in the visual/oral world around them.
