Boys and Girls Tennis (Grades 6-8) - Spring 2014
Coach: Ms. Wegman
Welcome to the John Glenn Boys’ and Girls’ tennis team! Due to the low numbers we
originally had, we will be having a combined Boys’ and Girls’ tennis team this season.
Practice will begin on Thursday, April 3rd, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. Practices will be held
on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays of non-match afternoons. NO
PRACTICE ON WEDNESDAYS! From April 1st – May 27th the end of the day bell will
ring at 2:24. Practices officially start at 2:35 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Due to weather,
schedules could change frequently during the fall so please keep track of updated
schedules given out at practices or matches. Student athletes are responsible for
listening to all school announcements daily for any practice or game changes. The
tennis schedule will be given when available.
Before Participating:
**All student athletes must have the appropriate paperwork filled out
and turned into the main office.
1.
Qualifying sports physical on file
with our school nurse.
2. All fees turned into the main office.
*Athletes will not be allowed to compete or practice until all paperwork is filled out and turned
into the main office. If you do not have a physical on file, you cannot practice or compete in the
matches. If you do not have your payment turned in, you will not receive a JGMS uniform and
cannot play.
Expectations
A student playing sports at John Glenn is considered a STUDENT ATHELTE. Student athletes are respectful,
role models and leaders during sports and school. It is important to understand that student athletes are
organized and aware of their responsibilities during their sports and academically in school.
**Students are responsible for receiving passing grades in ALL their classes. If a student is receiving a D or F
grade in any subject area, the student will not participate until they are passing all classes with A’s B’s or C’s.
If a student has behavior problems in class or during school, Ms. Wegman will be notified by the student’s
teacher and we will make the decide if you will play or not.
**Athletes are responsible for attending all practices, preforming their best effort at all times, maintaining
their sports uniform and wearing them to matches on match day, and showing a respectful, positive attitude to
all teammates and coaches. If not meeting all of those expectations, limitations of match play will be
determined by the coaches.
A student who DOES NOT attend practice WITHOUT an appropriate reason why
they cannot attend, they will NOT play in the match that week. Athletes are
responsible for communicating with the coaches daily.
An outstanding student athlete will have ALL areas of expectations (passing
grades (NO D’s or F’s at all), consistent attendance and a respectful,
positive attitude on and off the court.
Buses:
Student athletes will need to arrange their own transportation home after practices. If a student
needs to take the activity bus home they are responsible for communicating with the coaches
at practice and will leave at 3:40 p.m. to ride the bus home.
***On match days, bus transportation will be provided both to the school holding the competition
and will return student athletes to John Glenn. Parents will need to pick up their children from
John Glenn when the match is finished. Student athletes will have access to a phone when they
return from the match at John Glenn. On match days, students will get home AFTER 3:40 p.m.
(Matches tend to go longer than practices); therefore, no activity bus will be available after
3:40 p.m. and availability for home transportation is needed and not provided by the school.
Be sure to plan accordingly before coming to the away match.
Let’s make this a respectful, competitive, and FUN season! Go Jets!
