Thursday, December 10th
This past week we learned about New
Zealand from Muzz. He grew up in
New Zealand and is now a Kentucky
resident. He shared all about the life in
his homeland. I hope the students
shared with you what they learned.

Holiday Shop
Cold Weather
Please, make sure your child is prepared
for the colder weather. We will continue
to go outside for recess and a jacket,
gloves, and a hat will keep them warm!
Tuesday, December 8th is our day to shop at
the holiday shop. Please send money in the
envelope provided that went home today.
There is a place on the envelope for you to
write who your child is to shop for and how
much to spend.
Look What We’re Studying…
Language Arts:
Story of the Week for 12/7/15 Honey Bees
The students will practice decoding and discuss the pattern of long e sound as either _ee_ or _e words (ie feet,
me). We will be comparing and contrasting. In phonics, we will divide words into syllables. We will continue
learning to identify nouns in sentences. We will also be writing a factual paragraph.
Learning Targets:
-I am learning to sound out words with long e
I am learning to identify syllables in words.
-I am learning to compare and contrast.
-I am learning to identify nouns.
-I am learning to write expository paragraphs.
Week for 12/14/15 Review Week
We will be reviewing all the long vowels and their patterns. After reading stories, we will determine the author’s
purpose, identify the character and setting as well as sequence the events. In grammar, we will be reviewing
proper and common nouns and writing complete sentences using capitals and end marks.
Learning Targets:
-I am learning to identify vowel sounds.
-I am learning to identify the author’s purpose.
-I am learning to sequence the events of a story.
I am learning to identify the character and setting of a story.
-I am learning to identify singular and plural nouns.
-I am learning to write complete sentences.
Math:
We will be learning to measure using unit blocks. The students will compare lengths to determine which is longer.
We will also be completing bar graphs to represent our data that we collect. Addition and subtraction facts will
be practiced.
Learning Targets:
I am learning to use to add and subtract within 20
I am to use place value when adding.
I am learning to measure lengths.
I am learning to represent and interpret data.
Social Studies:
During the month of December we will be taking a trip around the world by studying the holiday customs in
different countries. One of our stops will be Australia. Students will get their passports stamped as we “travel”
around the world and complete activities that will help them to experience the celebration in each country.
Learning Targets:
-I am learning to identify directions (north, south, east, and west)
I am learning to locate places on a map.
I am learning to use a compass rose.
I am learning to compare and contrast holiday celebrations in other countries.
