Career Practitioners’ Seminar – 20 February 2015

Options for students without a VTAC offer
Negotiated offers for VTAC applicants
Swinburne has committed to providing students with a response to their applications for a negotiated offer within two business hours.
Students can apply for a negotiated offer if they wish to apply for a course that is ranked lower on their preference list than the course for
which they received an offer or for a course not included in their preference list.

UniLink diplomas: February intake
Our first 2015 intake for UniLink diplomas begins on 23 February. Feel free to pass on my contact details to any of your past students
who would like more information about UniLink diplomas and how they provide a pathway to a bachelor degree. I am happy to follow up

Application Days for direct applications
For students who did not submit VTAC application, we will be hosting Application Days to assist with the application process. Applicants are invited
to register for an appointment to meet one-on-one with a Swinburne course adviser. They will receive personal advice and assistance in completing
and submitting their application.

Welcoming high achievers to Swinburne
On 18 December 2014, Swinburne hosted its first event to congratulate VTAC applicants who achieved an outstanding ATAR. The event had a
great turnout. High-achieving students were informed of their guarantee to receive a scholarship to study at Swinburne in 2015. The students and
their parents also had to opportunity to speak with academic staff from their chosen courses.
Swinburne is proud to have dedicated $2 million to scholarships for new students in 2015. Congratulations to students from the following schools
who have been awarded Swinburne scholarships:
Ballarat Grammar School, Carey Baptist Grammar School, Castlemaine Secondary College – Etty Street Campus, Donvale Christian College,
Genazzano FCJ College, Ivanhoe Grammar School – Ridgeway Campus, Kilbreda College, Marcellin College, Mercy Regional College, Mildura
Senior College, Our Lady of Sion College, Saint Ignatius College Geelong, Scotch College, Strathmore Secondary College, The Geelong College
and Trinity Grammar School Kew.
Supporting autism: Free MOOC
Swinburne is launching a MOOC about autism in April 2015. It is designed for parents, families and carers living and working with individuals who
have autism. The MOOC is a free online course which will run for six weeks, using a scenario-based learning approach to support, guide and share
stories and experiences from parents and experts in the field. Email autism@swinburne.edu.au for more information.

Swinburne Start
Swinburne recently opened a new contact centre to service our Croydon and Wantirna campuses. Swinburne Start provides a contact point for
referrals from schools for students interested in vocational education, including apprenticeships and traineeships. Staff will offer pre-enrolment
guidance and advice for prospective students and are available for one-on-one appointments.

Higher Education Extension Studies
Swinburne offers Higher Education Extension Studies in information and communication technologies, and physics and astronomy. Students can
gain academic credit towards a range of Swinburne bachelor degrees for successful completion of these units.

DLTV Award for Excellence
We wish to congratulate Swinburne’s Dr Therese Keane who was the recipient of the 2014 DLTV Outstanding Leader of the Year Award. Therese
is a well-recognised and outstanding educator and leader in the field of ICT. Her recognised expertise in the field, diversity of ICT interests and her
own proven ability to enthuse fellow leaders and educators contributes to her state, national and international reputation.
Student achievement – That Dapper Chap & Humble Body
Swinburne’s Bachelor of Business (Entrepreneurship and Innovation) has produced many students interested in starting their own business.
George Bauer and Timothy Bennett are two such students – both have their own start-ups which are going from strength to strength.
