Job Title: Middle School Math-Grade 6

Reports To: Middle School Principal, and Director (as needed)

Position Overview:

The classroom teacher reports directly to the divisional Administrator. The teacher works collaboratively with all faculty, staff, parents and students to effectively implement the curriculum, and strives to ensure all interactions meet the needs of all students in line with the mission, vision and values of the school. An important aspect of all teaching in the sixth grade is to facilitate the development of the student in the cognitive, affective, ethical, emotional, social and physical domains of his/her growth.

● Understanding of Connected Math Program preferred

● Understands Backward Design, Rubicon Atlas, the UbD planner and the importance of collaboration for the program to be successful

● Can unpack standards/benchmarks and write mastery based objectives

● Is up-to-date on current best math education practice and actively incorporates it into daily teaching and learning

● Knowledge of curriculum development within a Standards/Benchmarks based system

● Understands and implements differentiation

● Experience with Course Management software (Google Aps,) and online grading.

Qualifications & Experience

● Holds a valid teaching certification (or equivalent) in their teaching field

(Masters desired)

● Minimum two year experience teaching in the subject/level applying for

● Proficient in oral and written English

Skills and Experience

● Technology literate in Web Applications, Google Applications and other current trends in the field of technology

● Demonstration of on-going professional development in areas of best practice

● Experience working with English as an additional language, learning resource and / or children who excel

● Experience in standards-based grading

● Differentiates in the classroom

● Experience with Connected Math Program preferred

Key Responsibilities

● Experienced in teaching Math in heterogeneous situations in the Middle School

● Highly skilled at differentiating the curriculum

● Experienced in teaching general math, algebra, pre-algebra, and geometry concepts and skills

● Demonstrated ability in applying effective practices and methodology of classroom management

● Experience and knowledge of integrated and/or thematic instruction

● Teaming experience grades 6-8

● Effectively prepares and has readily available long (UbD) and short term (daily lessons) planning and maintains this information on Atlas

● Reads thoroughly, understands and implements school policy and procedure.

● Demonstrates a solid knowledge of content and pedagogy making connections within and across disciplines.

● Continues to develop pedagogical practice through professional development and research and applies new knowledge to enhance student learning

● Displays understanding of typical developmental characteristics of age groups as well as exceptions to general patterns.

● Understands differentiation and implements effectively

● Collaborates with divisional counselor and other teachers to ensure the social,

emotional and educational needs of students are met

● Instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and equipment

● Uses relevant technology, successfully, to support instruction and learning

● Develops student understanding of technology use in the classroom (purpose, responsible use…)

● Observes, assesses and records student's performance and development in line with the school’s philosophy

● Provides ongoing feedback to students that encourages growth and development

● Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress and development for ongoing communication with parents, including but not limited to goal setting, report writing, portfolios and conferences

● Manages student behavior in the classroom through establishment of expectations and reinforcement of standards of conduct in alignment with the behavior expectations of the school

● Responds to misbehavior in an appropriate manner that respects student dignity, while reinforcing the responsibility of making right choices

● Performs certain pastoral duties (in line with the school guidelines) including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement

● Performs additional duties effectively (during and outside the regular school day) as required by the school

● Proactively participates in and / or leads extracurricular activities, including participation in overnight Fall Tips in grades 6-12

● Proactively participates in faculty meetings and parent meetings as required

● Maintains a solution-based approach to problem solving

● Communicates regularly with students, colleagues and parents through a communication book, class newsletter, email, website and / or other means of communication.

● Collaborates on an ongoing basis with faculty, parents and students

● Maintains and regularly updates their online course management tool (Google,

VeraCross)
