The Scott High School Class of 1954 celebrated their 60th class reunion at Chef Roy’s in Rayne on
Sunday June 22. Graduates in attendance were (not in order): Lindon Arceneaux, Gerald Broussard,
Mary Rose Broussard, Lerline A. Broussard, Masil B. Comeaux, Lena G. Courville, Priscilla C. DAtel,
Roland Guidry, Wilbert Guidry, William Guidry, Harold Hebert, Edwis Martin, Barbara Martin, Hazel D.
Myers, Orin Ricard.
Scott High School Class of 1954 celebrates 60th reunion
It was a Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m., that Scott High School Class of 1954
hosted their graduation ceremony.
Their patriotic theme, “America We Proudly Hail”, while their class motto: Take the world as you find it;
but leave it better, was fitting to Memorial Day back in 1954
The gymnasium was ornamented with red gladiolas, (which was the class flower) and fern on that
Sunday afternoon in 1954.
Graduates entered the gymnasium to the processional music, The Coronation March, played by the
Scott Band.
Master of Ceremonies, Class President Oran Richard introduced Howard Guilbeaux who gave a speech
on “Liberty, Unity, and Democracy”.
Mr. Curtis Broussard presented the Amercian Legion Award to Hazel Dugas and Oran Richard.
Mr. Ernest Cayard Jr., presented the following awards: citizenship-Patrick Lelanc, shorthand-Masil
Breaux, best attendance-Barbara Roger, Journalism-Marlene Chiasson.
Hazel Dugas was voted best all-around girl, while Howard Guilbeaux was best all-around student, service
award went to Lena Guileaux.
Masil Breaux, Hazel Dugas, and Shirleen Pastor received scholarships to SLI; Oran Richard, Shirleen
Pastor, and Vivian Martin to LSU.
Mr. Charles F. Delana presented diplomas to the Scott High Class of 1954; following Shirlenn Pastor gave
a closing speech.
The Scott High Graduating Class of 1954 left the gymnasium to the Recessional March.
Now, 60 years later, the Scott High Class of 1954 gathers every year to celebrate memories and
recognize their deceased classmates.
On Sunday June 22, the Scott Class of 1954 gathered at Chef Roy’s in Rayne for an afternoon lunch and
to catch up on some fun-filled memories.
Sixty years later, Class President Oran Richard had no trouble getting up in front of his class.
“It’s great to get together again, after 60 years, it feels darn good, let’s make it 61,” he said.
Richard also thanked class members: Hazel D. Myers, Lena G. Courville, Lerline A. Broussard, and Masil
B. Comeaux, for putting together the 60 year celebration.
Lois Domingue and daughter attended in honor of deceased class mate Daniel Domingue and Marlene
Prejean wife of deceased class mate David “Boo” Prejean attended in his honor along with Marie
Hebert.
