Humanities Year End Project
Bring History Alive at Heritage Park
Overview: Working in groups of 3 or pairs, you will design an expansion to Heritage Park that will “bring
history alive” for its visitors. You will present your design to the “Board of Directors.” Your goal is to impress the
board with your proposal so they will award you with the one million dollar contract. This project, will be part
your final mark for Humanities.
Instructions:
1. Heritage Park has areas that focus on different themes such as the fur trade, the railway, Western
settlement, etc. Choose a theme for your expansion from the list below that you will use as your
focus for all your projects.
2. Remember that visitors from all over the world, including Quebec and France, will be coming to
Heritage Park to explore the expansions. As a result you should try to make some features, such as
signs, instructions, and menus, bi-lingual (in English and French)
3. Come up with a plan of action. Use the “Long Range Calendar Plan” (see attached) to
organize your time and your expansions so that you can get your work done on time.
4. You must fill out your “Daily Work Log” (see attached) each day that you work on the project.
5. Practice so you have a polished presentation when proposing your ideas to the Board of Directors for
Heritage Park. They will be judging your presentations and will make a decision on who to award
the 1 Million dollars to.
6. Good luck!

PART B: Interpretive Station
You have taken on the role of Historian for Heritage Park and they have asked you to create an interpretive station
that focuses on the theme/historic event you selected. This display should be interactive, so visitors are entertained
and informed.
• Your interpretive station must meet the following requirements:
o Research your theme/historic event in detail. You will be encouraged to gather resources from
a variety of sources including books, websites, magazines, videos and other media. You must
have a minimum of 5 sources. (at least 3 different types)
o Create research notes for your research. These must be in your own words.
o Select your interactive display components. You must choose a minimum of 3 different
components to include in your interpretive station. Each group member should be assigned
a component and they are INDIVIDUALLY responsible for the write up.
o Write (must be word processed) a paragraph report (minimum) on each of the display
components that you have chosen to include.
" Each write-up will include an explanation of the component and why it is important
to the theme of your display. You must identify the historical significance you’re
your topic had on Canada and how your topic affected the Canadian identity. It
must be edited!
o Create your interactive interpretive station by combing all of the components.

on what different components you would like to do. Fill in the chart
below with what you will accomplish each day.
You need to consider the following elements when planning:
