PREPARE YOUR ANIMAL FOR A DISASTER
** microchip cats, dogs & horses **
PREPARE CATS / DOGS FOR EVACUATION:
1. Cats need carriers that are labeled with their names, your name &
phone number, a laminated photo and a list of any medical
conditions and medications.
2. Dogs need a collar with their names, your name & phone number and
a leash.
3. Have go bags for your animals that include food, water, medicines,
first aid supplies, water bowl, can opener, food bowl, liter of water,
small cat litter bag and box with zip lock bags & poop scooper, paper
towels, plastic gloves, cloth towels, treats, etc.
4. Have a list of vets / nearby hotels that accept pets.
5. Prepare for your caged pets – birds, bunnies, etc.
PREPARE HORSES FOR EVACUATION:
1. Practice trailer loading during various conditions.
2. Put dog tags on halter w/ horse’s name, your name & phone number
and any special needs.
3. Grease pen phone number on the side of each horse.
4. Put two sides of duct tape on mane & write phone number.
5. Put halters & lead ropes by barn entrance.
6. Learn to tranquilize horses in case they become freaked out.
7. Prepare emergency supplies – first aid, etc.
