The Presidents will interact with each other without a specific agenda or
organized topics. A time to get to know one another!

What is a District Assembly?
The District Assembly is the most important educational forum of the new Rotary year!
It provides M.I.T. – Motivation, Information, and Training for incoming Club Officers
and Board Members.
Who should attend the District Assembly?
Those who find value are the incoming President, Secretary, Treasurer, Club Officers,
Directors and Chairs, All Chairpersons under Club Service, Community Service,
International Service, Vocational Service, Youth Activities and The Rotary Foundation
are encouraged to attend. The District Assembly is great for all new Rotarians along
with any dedicated Rotarian or past leader with experiences and ideas to share. There
is something for EVERYONE!
Why attend the District Assembly?
The District Assembly is an important opportunity for a Rotarian to learn, to share and
to and to assist. Meet Susanne Sundberg, District Governor 2009-10, along with other
district leaders. Assembly sessions, coordinated and taught by dedicated and
knowledgeable Rotarians, will help in planning for the new Rotary year.

Club Service Chairs– Session 1 – Discuss the operations of the club including the
weekly meetings and club fellowship led by Senior Assistant Governor Club Service
Helene Pizzini.
Community Service Chairs– Session 1 – Learn about Rotary and District focus projects
and programs that benefit our neighbors. Learn facts and programs for peaceful
communities. Helping with humanitarian projects is a vital part of Rotary
programs. Senior Assistant Governor Community Service Pat Bennett, Vicki Radel and
Jason Vogel.
District Events – What’s Happening – Session 3 – Plan the club calendar to include the
District activities. Learn about the events and how the club can be involved with
these activities. Senior Assistant Governor Angi Ma Wong
Foundation Chairs – Session 1 – Review the many programs and contribution
opportunities of The Rotary Foundation led by Matching Grants Chair Pat Cashin,
Annual Giving Chair Scot Clifford and Paul Harris Society Chair Julia Abreu-Mason.
Fundraising – How to Make Oodles of Money – Session 2 – Meet the challenge of
raising monies for projects with suggestions and procedures.
Governor’s Visits – Session 3 – The Club Presidents and Assistant Governors will meet
to discuss procedures and suggested guidelines for the Official Governor’s Visit to the

Grants – How to Fill Out the Forms – Session 2 – Learn about applying for
Humanitarian Grants and District Simplified Grants from Matching Grants Chair Pat
Cashin and District Simplified Grants Chair Wilson Benitez.
Increase Membership with Public Speaking – Session 3 – Identify four types of
potential members and how to communicate with each type. Determine what to say
when asked "What is Rotary?" Learn how to make non-members members. Use media
to share your Rotary moments and build membership from Aliyah Levin.
International Projects and the District Trip – Session 2 – Projects beyond our borders
in exotic foreign countries will be presented for Rotary Clubs to partner with other
clubs.
Learn about these special opportunities including the annual District
Humanitarian Trip with Senior AG International Service Joe Vasquez and Chair Aliyah
Levin.
International Service Chairs– Session 1 – Learn about the programs of service across
borders for the coming year from Senior Assistant Governor International Service Joe
Vasquez and Chair Aliyah Levin.
Managing Your Time – Session 3 – Balance personal, professional and Rotary time in
prospective and priority with David Moyers, PDG.
Membership Chairs – Session 1 – Discuss plans and procedures for club membership
growth with Senior Assistant Governor Larry Johnson.
Membership – Get-em and Keep-em – Session 2 – With a goal of a net gain learn more
about increasing and keeping club members with Senior Assistant Governor Larry
Johnson.
New Member Orientation – Session 1 – Members new to Rotary will learn more about
Rotary, District 5280 and their role in the Rotary Club with David Moyers, PDG.
Polio Eradication – End Polio Now – Session 3 – With four remaining countries Rotary
is pushing for the last of this dreaded disease. Learn about the Gates Polio Challenge
and ways Rotarians can do their part. Chair Shirley Giltzow.
Presidents 2009-10 – Session 1 – Governor Susanne Sundberg will discuss plans and
goals for the coming year. This program is essential to start the year with what is
needed.
Presidents 2010-11 – Session 1 – Governor Elect Doug Baker will meet with the 201011 Presidents. Meet classmates and begin organizing for a successful year.
Public Relations Chairs – Session 1 – The role and procedures for communicating with
the club and the community will be presented by Senior Assistant Governor Lew
Bertrand.
Public Speaking – Session 2 – Learn the tricks to speaking at ease with groups from
Senior Assistant Governor Angi Ma Wong.
RI Club Leadership Plan and Strategic Planning– Session 2 – RI recommends a club
board structure for Rotary clubs and long range planning. For all clubs, this program is
especially helpful to Small Clubs led by Associate District Trainer Carmela Raack.
RI Emphases: Water – Session 2 – The shortage of clean water in the world is a focus
of RI as Rotarians strive to provide this resource to others led by Larry Bender.
Risk Management, Protecting Rotary Clubs and Youth – Session 3 – RI has guidelines
for liability and accountability with youth recommended for Rotary clubs. This session
is essential for host families and those working with youth programs. Learn about
these suggested regulations from Sr. Assistant Governor Jerrie Heslov, Sr. Assistant
Governor Marie Fremd, RYLA Chair Elyse Beardsley and District Legal Advisor Scot
Clifford.
Secretary – Session 1 – A vital member for a smoothly running Rotary Club the
Secretary has many procedures and dates that are essential for the Rotary Club.
District Administrator Tori Hettinger and Downey Club Secretary Ingrid Martin will
provide the information to be an outstanding Club Secretary.
Rotary and the Media – Session 3 – Learn the essentials to promote Rotary and club
activities through the media with Senior Assistant Governor Lew Bertrand.
Rotary YouTube, FaceBook and Twitter – Session 3 – Rotary encourages videos on
YouTube. Learn how to find and use these videos from young people who understand
the Internet. Also, learn about the new Internet connecting programs.
Treasurer – Session 1 – The procedures and regulations for financial accountability in
Rotary will be discussed by District Treasurer Dennis Benko.
Vocational Service – Session 1 – Ethics, professions and mentoring are aspects of this
program. Learn more about Vocational Service opportunities from Senior Assistant
Governor Rick Searey, Ethics Forum Chair Gerardo Jaramillo and Literacy Chair Olivia
Patterson.
Vocational Service: Ethics and Literacy – Session 2 and 3 – The focus on appropriate
ethics in business and personal lives is an interactive part of the Ethics Forums.
Rotarians providing books and dictionaries help improve literacy among children and
adults. Learn more about how to help improve literacy in our communities and abroad
Senior Assistant Governor Rick Searey, Ethics Forum Chair Gerardo Jaramillo and
Literacy Chair Olivia Patterson.
Websites – Internet Communications – Session 2 – Learn about the procedures and
protocol for websites and club bulletins led by District Administrator Tori Hettinger
and Steve Johnson.
Working With Youth Programs – Session 2 – RI Youth Programs, Rotaract and Interact,
coordinating together for leadership, friendship and projects in District 5280 will be
discussed. Learn how to work with youth programs from Senior Assistant Governor
Youth Activities Marie Fremd and RYLA Chair Elyse Beardsley.
Youth Activities Chairs – Session 1 – Rotaract, Interact and RYLA are active youth
programs in District 5280. In addition to club led activities the district brings the clubs
together for projects and events. Rotarians will learn events with youth from Senior
Assistant Governor Youth Activities Marie Fremd and RYLA Chair Elyse Beardsley.
