Article I: Introduction
This Constitution hereby establishes the Atheist and Skeptic Association For Progress also know
by the acronym A.S.A.P. This organization has been formed for the express purpose of
promoting secular activism, examining religious and philosophical beliefs, and educating others
about atheism, agnosticism, and other irreligious worldviews. Members of A.S.A.P should join
this organization for the express purpose of exploring these three goals in a rational, honest, and
honorable fashion.
Article II: Membership
Section 1
Membership into the A.S.A.P. is open to all students currently enrolled at the University of
Oklahoma. Associate Membership is available to all members of the OU community.
Section 2
Membership in, association with, and benefits emanating from A.S.A.P and their related
activities shall be based upon such considerations as performance, educational achievement, and
other criteria related to the goals of the organization and purposes of the activities. Judgments in
this regard based solely on an individual’s race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender,
sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, marital status, or political belief are not judgments
based on such considerations. Further, the purpose of A.S.A.P. must be consistent with public
policy as established by prevailing University Community standards.
Section 3
Membership benefits include the right to introduce topics at meetings, vote in A.S.A.P elections,
running for A.S.A.P office, and formally participating in A.S.A.P. events. Associate members
may only formally participate in A.S.A.P events.
Section 4
Membership will be granted by gaining information of the individuals name, e-mail, major and
student I.D. number. Furthermore, members must be active in at least two activities associated
with A.S.A.P each semester in order to vote in end of the school year elections.
Article III: Offices and the Advisor
Section 1
The staff of A.S.A.P. must, at least, be comprised of an Advisor, a President, a Vice-President, a
Secretary, and a Public Relations Officer.
Section 2
A.S.A.P. shall have as an advisor a full-time member of the University faculty or staff. The
Advisor's role is restricted to offering advice and feedback to the governing council.
Section 3
The President is responsible for making sure club meetings are run in an efficient and timely
manner, making executive decisions not assigned to another office, and breaking ties during
votes excluding elections.
Section 4
The Vice-President is responsible to all executive tasks and responsibilities delegated to him/her
by the President. The Vice-President is also responsible for filling in as chief in the President’s
absence.
Section 5
The Secretary is responsible for keeping track of the financial and formal happenings of the
organization. This includes organizing receipts from club expenses, keeping a budget, keeping a
list of club members, logging meeting minutes, and organizing elections.
Section 6
The Public Relations Officer’s duty is to increase awareness of A.S.A.P. and A.S.A.P. events on
campus. This can be accomplished at the discretion of the P.R. officer, but must meet the final
approval of the President.
Article IV: Elections
Section 1
Elections shall not be valid absent substantial compliance with this Article.
Section 2
Elections for all offices shall be held at the end of the Spring Semester before the
commencement of final examinations. In the event that there are no candidates for an office, the
office may remain open until an election is called. Emergency elections may be held if an office
becomes vacant in between annual elections.
Section 3
Elections may only take place if at least one week’s notice of the date, time, and location of the
election is given to members of the Organization.
Section 4
Voting shall be by secret paper ballot, with each qualified present member having one vote for
each position.
Section 5
The Secretary shall document the names of the qualified members present at the election and the
number of votes that each candidate for an office receives.
Section 6
A qualified member may be a candidate for more than one office, but shall immediately remove
himself or herself for consideration of any other Officer position after being elected. In no
instance may one person fulfill more than one Officer position.
Article V: Other Processes and Bylaws
Section 1
This Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the organization’s qualified voting
membership present at a general meeting.
Section 2
Any Officer or Advisor may be removed for cause by a three-fourths vote of the qualified voting
membership.
Section 3
The Organization is subject to Local, State, and Federal Laws.
Section 4
If there is a conflict between our national or parent organization’s rulings, constitution, or
direction and the University of Oklahoma Student Code, the Student Code preempts the national
or parent ruling.
