The Meeting Minutes of the Hope College Chapter of Mortar Board
September 6, 2006
The Meeting of the Hope College Chapter of Mortar Board was held in room 239 of the Martha
Miller Center at 9:00 p.m.
Those Present: Advisor Diane Portfleet, Advisor Marti Bultman, Alyssa Alsum, Sommer
Amundson, Ashley Bainbridge, Sarah Baumgartner, Lea Blackney, Rebecca Blauw, Matthew
Boote, Elizabeth Brichacek, Audrey Converse, Erin Dargis, John Davisson, Michelle Gendron,
Karl Hoesch, Alicia Hofelich, Jacob Holton, Laura Johnson, Shova KC, Rebecca Lathrop, Rachel

The was called to order by president Lisa Smith. Members introduced themselves.
Secretary Lea Blackney presented the Attendance Policy contract. It was approved and signed
by all members.
Advisor Diane Portfleet and President Lisa Smith told the chapter about the awards received at
the National Conference in July, including the Golden Torch, as well as recognition for our
Valentine’s Day Disabilities prom.
T-shirt designs were shown from past years. Different designs are available; a sign-up sheet was
passed around for the free shirts for campus visibility.
The National Project is presented, Reading is Leading. We will do our Homecoming Book Drive
again. Ideas welcomed.
Events and projects from last year are presented, to vote on what events will be done again and
find chairs. Includes updates on our Compassion Child, and our sponsored students in Tansania.

Invisible Children, if it happens this year (April) chair and researcher: Erin Dargis
A new position of Fundraising Chair/Committee was proposed, to help the chapter raise money
for its own events. Sara Pillow, Jacob Holton, Karl Hoesch all volunteered to collaborate.
The next meeting will be held September 20, 2006 at 9 p.m. in Martha Miller 239. There being no
more business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
