o Several professional development sessions are planned in the areas of literacy,
reading and math. A description of these activities is found in the school’s draft
improvement plan.
o A professional development session in Common Core Standards for Math (Dr.
Mead) is scheduled for next Tuesday December 11, 2012.
o The Stadley Rough School grade level data teams have been meeting to look at
student progress. The charge of the data teams is to guide the staff members of the
school through the process of making data-driven decisions to improve student
performance. Next session of the grade level data teams is scheduled for next
Tuesday December 11, 2012.
o The 2nd Grade Concert has been rescheduled for this coming Thursday December
6th at 7:00PM.
o The KC (Kindness and Compassion) Clubs for SRS elementary students is a way
to have students involved in fun, practical activities that keep students engaged in
sustaining culture of kindness. SRS started its activities involving 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grade students. The SRS KC Club recently presented to students information on
four different charities that the Club could help and support. The intention was to
have students decide, by way of voting, on only two of those four charities that
were presented. The voting was held and the voting results identified DAWS as
one of the charities that students selected for the Kindness and Compassion Club.
o As part of the planning work that is being done to expand the SRS teaching areas,
a meeting with the school district architects is planned for Tuesday December 11,
2012. The school expansion (which at this stage consists on three new
classrooms) is expected to be concluded by the 2014 school year. SRS is
preparing to offer full day kindergarten starting in the 2014-15 school year.
5. Review of Draft School Improvement Plan:
Mr. Ed Wachowski presented information on the draft SRS School Improvement Plan.
The purpose of the school improvement plan is to improve the quality of teaching and
learning in the school by providing a framework for analyzing problems, identifying
underlying causes, and addressing instructional issues at the school. The draft plan was
partially reviewed (The parent engagement section was left pending) and the following
recommendations made:
o School Mission Statement needs to define what the “Core Values” it refers
to. According to Mr. Wachowski, this will be defined in the context of the
Positive Behavior System that is currently being used at the school.
o School Mission Statement needs to promote “individual excellence” rather
than just “excellence” as the main goal.
o The Mission Statement needs to also differentiate and include top
performing students and not focus only on increasing low student
performance. Maintain and improve the performance of those top
performers should also be included.
o Mission Statement needs to incorporate engaging parents and community
representatives.
Ricardo Gonzalez Llera – December 9, 2012.
2
o The “achievement gap” language will be revised.
o The School Data Team section needs to include parents as well.
o The School Level Student Achievement Goals section needs to include
activities to improve performance in the areas of Science, Technology and
Engineering. Mr. Sincerbeaux will work to include activities in these areas.
o Mr Ed Wachowski will review the option to include “Boys Rock” as an
activity for students in grades 3 – 5 (similar to the Girls R.U.L.E.
program) which is now included in the plan.
6. Discussion of School Compact:
After appropriate discussion the council decided to include the School Compact as a part
of the Stadley Rough School Parent Engagement Plan.
